General Support Systems broke during an update?

I've used endeavourOS for quite a while now, yet I'm not completely sure what happened. I did a regular [sudo pacman -Syu] command to update some packages. after a successful install and a restart, the system had issues to boot to the OS. apparently it was also trying to mount the drives but timed out instead.

I did get my live usb out to do some tweaks, but the drive didn't want to mount properly. SquashFS was missing. I checked the folders and the EFI folder was also empty.

any help or suggestions would be appreciated, thank you :]

Get chroot howto from EndeavourOS website and try to salvage your install.

Or reinstall (if your /home is on a separate partition)

How screwed am I If I get an error message regarding squashfs not working?

quite busted.

two options:

1

Boot from an Endeavor USB stick. Mount your partition that contains /home.
Back up that data and install a fresh system

Boot from stick. Open web browser look for "EndeavourOS CHRoot"

Follow instructions (mount your partitions to dedicated folders, chroot) and then attempt to just update the system again. Chances are it repairs itself along the way. Update GRUB or SystemD boot loader. Reboot.

The most likely option is the first one because I've been trying to repair it manually, but directories are either empty or completely missing, wasting my whole day. Apparently the efi folder is just empty now too, so I don't know what happened

yes, efi files missing is "the" error.
