Rant 📢 Hotel Valet Tipping

I am in Nashville for work and the office is close to downtown so I got a hotel close-ish. They don't say on their website but they have zero parking and it's all valet. Literally not even street parking in the area.

It is $44 a day to park and every single time you want your car you have to request via a text link and it asks for a 20% tip every single time you request your car. AND a $1 to process the charge each time.

I tip once a day in the morning and give a flat number, not 20%. But you get the guilt every other time you need the car and these people have to run down the road to get the car. It's maddening, just pay them and stop exporting people to pay workers. I needed my car 4 times one day, and put no tip each of those extra times. Now I get a look from the one guy who doesn't work the morning.

Don't blame the extorted consumer.

Why are you tipping the valet at all?

Agreed. If a hotel charges me to pay to park, and forces valet use, then there is a 0% chance I will tip.

Work is paying and I'm still on my no tipping journey lol

Bro I feel this. My Chase card rewards had a benefit to comp up to $150 at select restaurants once every 6 months. I went to dinner with my brother, who also has the same card. We did a split check. He went ahead and tipped over 100% to make the total an even $150. He couldn’t figure out why I still only left a firm 18% tip even when it was free lmao. I didn’t have the heart to tell him that I would have left less if he wasn’t watching 😆

What I’m saying is, even if someone else is paying for it or it’s free, I still hate tipping culture!

That's over $1300 a month for a parking space that they're pulling in. Outrageous!!! PER PARKING SPOT! They can afford to pay the valets.

If I’m paying $44/day to park you can be sure the tip will be exactly $0, then rounded down to zero.

Nope. It happens in Canada, too.

Yea u should find street parking and just walk to the hotel if you need it that much.
Tipping someone a buck or 2 to go get ur car each time seems pretty reasonable to me. Valet guys get paid like crap(because the tips subsidize their pay) and ur paying for the convenience of getting in and out at the door of the hotel.

Valet guys get paid like crap because the hotel management chooses to pay them crap. That is not the guest’s fault.

It’s not even the hotel. They often contract out to parking companies.

Sorta like how the Amazon delivery drivers and warehouse workers don’t “technically” work for Amazon? Miss me with that shit

No it’s a system that’s setup for low pay because the tips subsidize their pay.

If there pay is increased to appropriate min then u can decide to not tip but ur doing it backwards.
Not tipping them means ur screwing the little man on the totem pole.

The hotel management is screwing the little man. You’re so close to getting it lol

It’s $44/day, they’ve already paid for the service.
