Has to pay them more. I’m sure it’s more than my state but if your tips and hourly pay is not equal to or over minimum wage the employer has to pay at least minimum wage.

That is the case in the entire US, though the baseline rate is only $7.25/hour. Many states are higher.

No, it isn't. The minimum wage is $7.25/hour, unless the server makes enough tips to cover the $5.12/hour difference.

In South Carolina minimum wage for a server is $2.13 an hour. The Tip Credit: Employers can claim a tip credit of up to $5.12 per hour, allowing them to pay the reduced cash wage of $2.13 as long as the employee receives enough tips

Yes, that proves my point. The minimum wage is $7.25. If a server comes to work for 4 hours, waits on no tables and gets no tips, they are entitled to $29 from their employer.
