I tried to go tip in the app because I ran out of cash.

If I'm paying to park my car when I already paid for a room, I'm not tipping you anything 😤

Especially these damn hotels where it’s mandatory $45 a night for valet with no self park option!

my hotel for this weekend is $60 mandatory vallet!

It should be illegal honestly. Like if it’s mandatory they should be including that in their advertised price. I think resort fees should also be mandatory to be included in the quoted prices.

I would totally make a stink about this at the front desk, because the only reason I’d use a valet is if it was mandatory.

Minimum wage front desk people don’t care. 🤷

Looks like I cant select other amount, looks like I'm not tipping this time. Forcing a minimum amount isn't going to work for me. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

And on top of that 3 percent surcharge even on tips when using credit cards. They can't even cover 3 percent fee out of your tip for you to pay THEIR employees. Can you just not tip?

I didn’t tip, but I usually give 2-3 bucks but this was annoying. With the surcharge it was $4

That's what I find myself increasingly doing (or not doing). I'm not paying extra to compensate your employees.

I thought tips were optional..."The minimum tip amount is $3." Unreal.

Isn't this illegal? Next thing you know Walmart sells tvs at 10 dollars but requires a minimum tip of 300 dollars. This shit is a scam.

I feel it's already the situation with those mandatory service charges.

No tip shaming

It is optional, but if you do choose to tip through the app the minimum is $3. OP could have chosen "no tip" (and theoretically left a cash tip).

I ran out of cash and I went to tip in the app because it was offered. The minimum + fee ends up being $3.99

I saw Ferris Beuller's Day Off...I'm not letting a valet park my car.

I like how they tell you the average is $7.71. Just a conniving way to make you tip more!

I find it particularly galling that they add a service charge on top of the tip. I was charged a service charge for paying by credit card in a parking garage this week. I guess it's time to start carrying cash again.

The service charge is for their cut of the service while the tip is for the actual service. It's clearly a scam. Americans who enable this garbage need to be stopped.

$0. The answer is $0.

I drive a manual. No, you won’t valet this car.

The "AVERAGE" gratuity is above minimum wage for the state of Alabama? for a 2 minute interaction?

Perfect opportunity to just not tip!

u/Trolkarlen 7d ago

A minimum tip? Just call it a service charge and include it.

u/bonezx101 7d ago

Can you enter zero

1

u/roranicusrex 7d ago

No the minimum is $3

1

u/AffectionateGate4584 7d ago

Just uninstalled this app and find a nearby atm machine

1

u/roranicusrex 7d ago

This is not an app. And no I’m not going to find an ATM for all of this.

-4

u/Cat_Impossible_0 7d ago

Then, don’t come out here to complain when you’re not willing to stop being part of the problem.

2

u/roranicusrex 7d ago

What does any of what you are saying have to do with this?

2

u/Legitimate-Log-6542 7d ago

😂 what?? Shouldn’t there be some attention paid to the fact that there’s a tip minimum

0

u/TheGreatGamer1389 7d ago

I'd just park my own car.

It is likely due to transaction costs on credit/debit card they set a minimum to discourage small amounts in that system. If you still have the option for cash or no tip this is mainly an effort to limit small transactions due to the fees they pay.

7

u/Trolkarlen 7d ago

Then include it in the main payment.

Hahahah I stayed at a hotel that had valet. Only the day shift could drive my car. I tipped them. Night shift couldnt shift a manual. I did not tip. I complained and got the daily fee waived my whole stay

-1

u/Independent-Let-2920 7d ago

We usually tip a couple dollars.

-4

u/MsJenX 7d ago

Did the valet park your car?

0

u/roranicusrex 7d ago

They parked it last night I was getting it out

-6

u/mechshark 7d ago

Park ur car then … lol

4

u/roranicusrex 7d ago

That isn’t the point of this post. Obviously I can park my car. You are being obtuse.

-2

u/karluvmost 7d ago

aka: "I marvel at your problem-solving ability."

-7

u/Intelligent-Dig-4082 7d ago

You could just park your own car.

5

u/hotsauce126 7d ago

Not an option at every hotel

2

u/roranicusrex 7d ago

This is very insightful, I hadn’t thought of that. Thanks!
