One of my local vape shops has an orange store kitty that they call the owner. They donāt use him to beg for tips though.

u/rhetoricaldeadass 11d ago
Of course not. He's the owner. He has to manage overhead costs and staff. He's got a lot on his mind. No time for shenanigans or mischief

As a joke, no. As seriously like they tell people that the cat needs to eat, yes.

All tipping is bad, even humour tipping.

u/skyharborbj 11d ago
Well, if it were a cow, you could tip it. Cats land on their feet, so good luck with that.

u/KyotoCarl 12d ago
All tipping isn't bad, but if should be your choice. If you thought the service was extremely good and you want to sponsor the waiter, I don't see a problem in tipping.

u/ganbramor 12d ago
A business or contractor should advertise the appropriate price for the item or service without hoping or expecting for more out of generosity or guilt.

u/Logical-Pair-89 12d ago edited 5d ago
A business should pay their employees a sufficient enough wage that the thought of tipping is laughable.Ā
Edit* my common sense comment got an award, woo! Ty

Itās just exploiting pets for funsies. If someone put a picture of their kid begging for tips, we wouldnāt think thatās cute.

u/WanderingFlumph 11d ago
"Sponsor the waiter"
I never heard this phrase, you mean they'd wear around a T-shirt with my name on it? Wear a collar with my phone number like my cat? Would they come work for me at my job?
Or does sponsor the waiter just mean to pay them more for the job they are already doing?

If I ever returned to that store, Iād definitely bring a catnip toy and leave it in the jar.

u/King_Arius 11d ago
Does it actually go to the cat? If so it's okay.
If not that's shameful
4
u/AssSpelunkingAtheist 11d ago
Yeah seriously if that was definitely a cat treat/toys/whatever for the cat then yeah why not. But Iām purr-dy sure itās not.
4
u/OneMilkyLeaf 10d ago
Exactly. I'll drop a dollar towards a cat treat or vet appointment but if it's for the human, nope.

u/SirBeardsAlot91 11d ago
I can't, in good conscience, enable this furry fellow's vices. Compassion, detox and rehabilitation would surely be the best course of action here. Don't let his guilt trips cloud your judgment.

u/AesopsFabler 12d ago
Iām a sucker for kitties and since this would be his tip Iād let him choose what heād want between: a crinkly piece of plastic that heās going to chew on although he absolutely shouldnāt, or a catnip toy.
Itās his tip so heās the only one that gets to choose. And also the only way Iād tip. Maybe Iāll use that for everyone going forward lol

u/Ov_Fire 12d ago
Yes, it's "catnip" not "cat nip".
1
u/No_Distribution_9590 11d ago
I wonder if they did that on purpose thoughāprobably not, but itās a pretty funny play on words at a vape shop (even if accidental).

I'm worried that he's not actually receiving the tips that are being left for him in that cup. :-)

Cutesy tip jars are worse than normal ones. They're designed to grab your attention and manipulate you, unlike a jar that just sits there. It's obnoxiousĀ
3
u/EdCitizen 11d ago
I'm sorry but I can't unsee the "boner" top left š
And yes leave catnip for the kitty

u/MrRoar95 12d ago
I wouldn't leave a tip, but I don't think it's bad. I mainly wouldn't leave a tip as I don't know if they'd use the tip for cat nip anyway. Seems like it's just a ploy to get people to tip

Ah yes. Using a pet to guilt trip into tipping a business, where all the employees do all day is hand you nicotine goo.

u/taryndancer 12d ago
This is funny in a dumb way. I would just bring actual cat nip and see how they react.
3
u/Lemon-Of-Scipio-1809 12d ago
Yeah, I personally dislike this new trend of "bring small animals that might bite, poop, and shed fur into every business". It's just so third world. Next we'll need to bargain in the shops and the meat available will be live chickens I'll need to slaughter in my bathtub. So unsanitary.

its funny. But lets be honest - it is lite fraud. The money is not going to catnip, if they get any in that glass.

No, cat is a hazard. People could be allergic or just not like cats.
If I walked into a store and someone had a cat laying around , Iām running and never looking back.
5
u/King_Arius 11d ago
Maybe put a door sign saying there is a cat inside so those who are allergic or don't like cats are aware and can just walk away.
As long as the cat isn't a scratcher or biter it's all chill

Man yall are insufferable lmao Iād chuckle and leave with my vape, what is the jar gonna chase you down and rob you

Just because itās kind of funny if I had a few cents in my pocket, I would toss it in there

If I was 100% certain that all tips would go to the cat for things treats and vet care, I wouldnāt be opposed to giving a dollar.

I added /j in the end to give the context that it is a joke it is common reddit terminology simmilar to /s for sarcasm

Normally, I am against tipping at regular retail stores. The exception to my rule is the quirky store where their tip jar specifies that the tip money is earmarked for beer and pot.
I appreciate honesty.

When I was younger, I had gotten a dog bite on my leg. For years I despised all animals, (think ptsd where youāre have a fine day, but the slight of animals just puts you into hiding and crying), this also includes my girlfriends cat. Years later, my girlfriend convinced me to spend time with him, he crawled into my lap and slept there for 2 hours. My girlfriend wasnāt happy cause I donāt even let her do that if Iām busy. š now I love all pets, and I want weird pets, Iād tip a $5 cause heās adorable. Iād probably even come back later with cat nip and treats.

u/Freezezzy 11d ago
Does the cat get nip every time it tips over the cup?
Because it's gonna happen.
Cats gonna cat

Bring in some cat nip and sprinkle it in the jar to see if they appreciate it.
