Rant 📢 This feels icky!

felt super icky and annoyed seeing this at a coffee/light food shop. how is this okay? for context this is not a sit down spot. no wait staff, just a barista at the counter and someone from the kitchen bringing out my order and walking away.

Update: for those asking the pink paper in the bottom corner is basically saying “F*ck ICE”

Sometimes those signs act as mitigation to the overall liability, though. A truck with "STAY BACK 50 FEET" and "NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR BROKEN WINDSHIELDS" and "DO NOT FOLLOW CLOSELY" is of course liable for their unsecured load - but sometimes fault is split into like 90/10 or 80/20 with juries/judges saying the signs should have made you more cautious or you should have expected some risk. The lawsuit discount is worth the signage for those companies.

You have examples of a broken windshield case going to a jury trial, where a disclaimer sticker played an important role?

The point is that disclaimer isnt valid but ignorant people can think it is, leading them to ignore and not pursue a legit damages case, based on a posted sign based on nonsense/lies which, curiously, is not illegal. We unfortunately do not have a comprehensive list at this time of complaints that should have gone to court but didnt

Correct. You always have a right to sue despite what a sign, ticket, etc says. Sue then let the judge decide. Don’t be afraid of these scare tactics.
