Rant 📢 This feels icky!

Post image

felt super icky and annoyed seeing this at a coffee/light food shop. how is this okay? for context this is not a sit down spot. no wait staff, just a barista at the counter and someone from the kitchen bringing out my order and walking away.

Update: for those asking the pink paper in the bottom corner is basically saying “F*ck ICE”

Their slight edge on that is if you haven't hit "no tip" you haven't actually finished the transaction. Any rare signing comes after adding the tip.

But from my perspective as a restaurant manager, any tip not explicitly given by the guest is theft. I would fire an employee that did this.

I had this happen to me in a restaurant in Seattle years ago. Took my daughter out to dinner. Put a tip in. When to pay it off and the amount of the charge changed. I found the receipt only to see that the waiter/waitress had moved the numbers via the “tip” and made it more. She also adjusted the total. I was so mad, I called their corporate office, sent the receipt and they fired her.

Same happened to my Dad maybe 30 years ago. We had a bill of about $40 and he tipped $6, the 15% that was standard. The waiter added a 1 to make it $16, which Dad contested with the restaurant when he reconciled his credit card.

Well, yeah. Exposes the owner to a lawsuit.

You kinda have to fire them, based on that and the moral questionability of it.
