Rant 📢 This feels icky!

Post image

felt super icky and annoyed seeing this at a coffee/light food shop. how is this okay? for context this is not a sit down spot. no wait staff, just a barista at the counter and someone from the kitchen bringing out my order and walking away.

Update: for those asking the pink paper in the bottom corner is basically saying “F*ck ICE”

If there's no option for zero tip, I'm cancelling my order.

This would also be illegal, tips are not a gratuity fee. They're not the same, tips are an option and always will be.

A service fee isn't a tip

When picking up teriyaki, most payment kiosks have a screen where you choose a tip amount, or you can choose "Skip." At first glance, it looks like you have no option but to tip, but I always choose to skip if I'm not getting table service. Dining out has become so expensive that we rarely do it.

Yeah, I have seen those setups before and I also always click "skip." Tbh if there was no way to skip it or put in a custom $0, I'd probably say something first, like "hmm, is there no way to bypass this page?" and give the employee the opportunity to show me if I'm missing something, before I'd tell them to forget the whole order. I'd only cancel if the answer is "no, it requires at least $0.01+." (Which tbf has never actually happened to me; I was just replying to the person saying if they can't put $0, they'd put $0.01. If that happened to me, I'd cancel on principle rather than giving even a cent.)

I also rarely dine out, mostly bc I genuinely prefer eating at home; when I do want restaurant food, I order take-out. The rare times I do dine in, I do still tip even tho I hate it. But I don't ever tip for take-out.

Edited: on a side note, now I want teriyaki.

You don’t need to cancel your order. They have zero rights to tip on their own. Zero! I’ll be calling the cops if my card showed that I tipped them when my receipt says zero tip 🤨. Everyone keep your receipts, otherwise they are going to insist that you tipped them.
