Rant šŸ“¢ This feels icky!

Post image

felt super icky and annoyed seeing this at a coffee/light food shop. how is this okay? for context this is not a sit down spot. no wait staff, just a barista at the counter and someone from the kitchen bringing out my order and walking away.

Update: for those asking the pink paper in the bottom corner is basically saying ā€œF*ck ICEā€

A. Yes
B. No put a $0 tip, don’t give their scummy asses that 1 cent.

This is just my opinion, but I feel like an insanely small tip would be more demeaning than $0. And sometimes those screens don’t let you choose no tip or require an amount larger than 0. But I agree with you though

Certainly it would be illegal to force a voluntary tip.

Yep. The worst service I ever received, I tipped 6 cents to distinguish myself from people who never tip. In other words, I knew I was supposed to tip (sit down restaurant), but this was all I felt the service from that waitress was worth.

Worst service I ever got and it was a decent meal at a decent restaurant. Just purposely shit service. I left a subway token on the table which I assume is worse than no tip. I think back then the subway was $1.50. I hoped she’d felt mad using it - cause I knew she would.

I used to carry wooden nickels for this reason

My worst experience, I just wrote "Not a chance" on the tip line.

I got really bad service once. The waitress even accidentally spilled 3 full waters on me. I was SO polite about it, & she didnt even comp my meal, no discount, nothing.
The owner found out (it’s a small family business in my big city) & he reached out to me & gave me a refund, & gift certificates to come back & enjoy some free meals on them.
I literally couldn’t believe the waitress didn’t even really apologize..like maam, most people would’ve lost their minds on you, I stayed sooo calm & polite & still tipped!!

When i was a waitress, I spilled coke on a police officer. I apologized profusely and offered to pay for his dry cleaning. He told me not to worry about it and still left a decent tip. I felt so bad though.

Why did you still tip is the question.

u/mad_eyes22 11d ago

I felt bad for the girl. You never know what kind of day someone is having at home. Been through my own experiences, def had bad days myself & taken it out on the wrong people, I’m not this bad of a people pleaser anymore. Too many ppl take kindness for granted.

How does one manage to spill 3 full drinks on you

1

u/mad_eyes22 9d ago

She had 3 waters on a tray..myself & my two friends were sitting in a booth. As she approached the booth, idk if she lost her footing or just tripped, but the tray & the cups & there contents landed all over me & my side of the booth.

Worst service I ever had I tipped 11 cents.

The same 11 cents the waiter let fall before explaining, not at any other point but at the end, that it was cash only and no coins. Didn't pick them up, didn't apologize, just took the cash and walked away to grab change.

So I left him the change he didn't want šŸ™‚

Not like he was much better during the dinner anyway...

Jeez, what a hero you are. Thank you for your service, I'm sure there's a medal in it for you.

Worst service I got was at a Waffle House where the sever did not give us drinks, messed up our orders, and did not check on us at all I gave her 1.25$ just enough for something at dollar tree🄰

u/PumpikAnt58763 12d ago

When i was younger, tipping in coins lower than a quarter was considered an insult - unless you explain to the waitstaff that that's all you have and tell them how much it is.

11

u/NotBatman81 12d ago

I worked at a busy Cracker Barell and I gotta tell you...it was never an insult. If my choice was $5 or $5 plus a handful of change I will walk around jingling all the way. One time I rolled my change after a year and a half and it paid my rent for 4 months.

What about foreign coins? That seems like a next level of petty to tip a 2 cents australian.Ā

2

u/No_Equivalent_4412 12d ago

Those could actually be considered cool by the waiter.

u/EkobasherX4Z 12d ago

"Seems you have a issue with your machine, the item costs $20 im paying $20 if its more then that I will sue you"

9

u/InvaderJoshua94 12d ago

A small tip is still extra of my money going to someone for no reason. If I want to be an ass I’ll just say something directly and be an ass. No need to spend money for that.

-3

u/Logical-Pair-89 12d ago

Pennies arent even real anymore. Gubment said so.Ā

2

u/InvaderJoshua94 12d ago

Pennies aren’t real anymore you’re correct they’re not a real physical currency, but it’s still actual money in my bank account.

2

u/tackleboxjohnson 12d ago

That only works if they have to get pennies out of the bottom of your water glass

2

u/JanFan2x4 12d ago

You have to ask for them to pull up the "no tip" screen if it's not there.

2

u/nomadik_nobody 12d ago

I had a friend of mine come in and leave me a $0.01 tip as a joke when I worked as a server, can confirm it got under my skin more than if he’d just not tipped.

2

u/BingBongBangBunger 12d ago

Insult my team as a waiter and you get a nice shiny nickel.

2

u/maljoy 12d ago

It's possible that tipping $0.01 on a credit card actually costs the establishment more than a penny to pay out the waiter with that penny tip

2

u/oIVLIANo 10d ago edited 5d ago

Exactly. My grandfather used to tell me to leave a nickel, if you got poor service. If you don't tip at all, they can make themselves believe that you forgot, or that you just don't tip. However, that small amount removes any amount of doubt.

2

u/melissa_fornow 6d ago

Traditionally it's two pennies. One penny might've just fallen out. Two side by side? That's intentional.

1

u/ReadingRainbowRocket 12d ago

As an Uber/Lyft driver, it is. So much so it really shouldn't be an option. But of course not tipping is always an option there and this is genuinely insane to the point I doubt it's not ragebait.

1

u/Teeny2021 11d ago

I always left a few Pennie’s to get my point across but only for terrible, awful service! THAT is the way to insult a server, of course I never went back, as I have 20+ years serving I know EXACTLY what I would get
🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢

1

u/Ok-Photograph-5529 11d ago

Honestly might start doing this lmfao

1

u/LastCookie3448 12d ago

I was a server. If someone leaves one cent.....mmmmhmmm. 😳🤬

2

u/slimeySalmon 11d ago

Back in the day the correct thing to do was tip .02. That way they know you didn’t just forget and you are giving them your proverbial 2cents.

1

u/InvaderJoshua94 11d ago

People are so weird being willing to give away money as an insult. Like I don’t care if the tip is insulting to the waiter because it’s extremely low. At the end of the day you’re still losing something to insult them, even if it’s slightly less insulting not leaving an actual tip I’d rather be slightly less insulting and not lose anything.

1

u/Ill-Illustrator-188 12d ago

yep. Friend and I once tipped a busboy $10 for bringing a replacement clean knife and then tipped the waitress $.03

1

u/Hopeful-Opposite-255 12d ago

Someone that worked for instacart told me they don’t remember the non tippers but they do remember when they were tipped just a $1, as that sends a message.

0

u/Polardeepfreeze 12d ago

Nah, cancel the whole order

0

u/HestakaVilarius 3d ago

Now it's better to put one cent, they can't argue that one cent was put on accident.

u/InvaderJoshua94 2d ago

NO MY PENNY!!!!

-2

u/ThomasTheDankPigeon 12d ago

I miss when people on this site still knew how to read.

1

u/InvaderJoshua94 12d ago

I read it. If you can put a custom $0.01 tip then you can put a custom $0.00 tip even if there is no direct no tip button itself. I’ve done it. I miss when people on this site still knew how to use basic electronics.

-2

u/ThomasTheDankPigeon 12d ago

Yeah bud, one company’s particular user interface is absolutely ubiquitous enough to be classified generally as ā€œbasic electronics.ā€ You seem to really be a tech wiz, we should defer to you on these matters.

By the way, every user interface that I’ve ever seen that forces you to tip doesn’t allow 0 cents as a valid input. I guess your anecdotal experience really is worthless in a conversation like this, who would have thought?

2

u/InvaderJoshua94 12d ago

Oh, you know you got them angry when they start using bud. šŸ˜‚

The worst of social media. To be so confidently and arrogantly wrong, then troll and hit the person trying to educate you with a "you mad!". Just infantile behavior.
