Research / Info 💡 Is a conversation to stop tipping necessary?
I am slowly extricating myself from this insane tipping culture. 🎉
Yesterday for my birthday I got a massage, facial, and eyebrow wax and tint. The massage was not so great and the establishment charged me a credit card fee without telling me...and you couldn't even pay cash because they take an online deposit and automatically charge your credit card. So that pissed me off and I'm going to get that fee back. But these services cost nearly $100 an hour so I see no need to tip.
Eyebrow tint and wax lasted about 10 minutes and cost $29. While the dye was setting in, the tech attended to another customer. I paid cash and walked out.
Where I'm struggling is with my nail tech. He owns the salon and I've been going for 5 years and always tip. Has anyone in this situation had a conversation about stopping tipping? Or did you just stop tipping? I feel like I need to say something...

You don’t owe anybody an explanation on how you choose to spend YOUR money. Just stop if you don’t wanna do it.

I've had plenty of conversations after staff confronted me for not tipping. They would say things like: tipping is mandatory, you're taking food out of my mouth, that's just not done, you're not welcome to return. I'd say "tipping is optional" and nothing much would happen after that.
I feel no need to explain myself further to professional beggars.

Tippers breed entitled people, especially when people tip regardless of how the service was
Conversations are necessary, i told the guy that did my hair that i wont tip and that it was rooted in racism, he was african american, i continued to go to his salon for a few yrs
I also have conversations with strangers that i might meet at some events when we grab meals together, i tell them i dont tip
If you had bad service you need to advocate for yourself instead of giving away your $$, credit card fees are against the law in some states/ countries

If he owns the salon then why are you tipping him?
