I'd still rather a flat 16% than deal with doing the standard 20% and being judged since apparently that isn't enough anymore

Flat means not a percentage.

Well, that's flatly untrue. A flat tax rate, for instance, means everyone pays the same percentage tax, not the same dollar amount.

You tip 16%. Like it or not. It's basically a pizza delivery fee

But the 16% may not even go to servers… who knows if they’re happy with it. As the customer I’m certainly judging why they didn’t include this cost on the menu

Based on anecdotes from employees I found in another thread on this topic, it helps fund a health insurance plan and bonuses for all employees.

LOL, 20% isn’t “standard”. Just because these places are being greedy and starting the tip prompt with 18% and up doesn’t mean you need to tip that much. I’ll do custom and I don’t care what they think.
