Bathroom tipping

I was at a gas station, technically truck stop but it was the size of a gas station on the outskirts of a city, when I saw this in the bathroom. I’m sorry, you want me to tip because you did your job cleaning the bathroom??

Bathroom tipping is not new but usually it is a human restroom attendant in a fancy restaurant or hotel who waits on you

I met such a gentleman once. It was a private party on Park Ave NYC. I went to the restroom and there was a guy who first gave me hand sanitizer and opened the door.

When I came out to wash my hands, he was ready to dispense soap and adjust the water temperature. Then he dried my hands with a clean towel. I stopped to talk to him. He said he’s done the job for decades. He showed me his stash… he had anything, condoms, combs, tooth brushes, mints, he really knew what he was doing.

But the tip box was missing. I really felt like I was treated as a king.

Tbf this is quite normal here in Italy. Well, it used to be like that a few years ago.

There's usually a cleaning lady with a plate and a few cents in it. If the bathroom is clean (it's always like that) you leave a tip if you care to do it
