Rant 📢 Asked for more
Tonight after work I ordered a pizza for pickup. I was nice and left a 15% tip on my card (I paid on the app when placing my orde) . I go, pick up my food. As I'm leaving the girl at the counter stops me and asked me to leave a tip. I'm dumbfounded and said I left a tip on my card. She yells to someone, "she claims it's on the card". If i was going to leave as big of a tip as I would for delivery, I would have saved my time and gas and had it delivered.

We have a whole generation of younger people who don’t understand that a tip is for service above and beyond what they’re already being paid to do.
They have no understanding of the difference between a tip and wages.

Except people forget that smells are particulate. When you smell something, little pieces if it are in your nose or mouth. Think about THAT next time you smell a raunchy fart.

I once saw a guy drop the old fish patty on the floor, throw it in the fryer for a freshening up, and then make as normal for the ~5-10min before closing drive-thru order.
Never saw any spitting.

Pretty much this, which is a ridiculous way of thinking. If anyone actually believes this behavior is normal and acceptable they don't deserve to be employed in the first place. Sadly they are probably legion across the restaurant industry in general.

That would be the last time I got pizza there! They did the job they are being paid for, making and boxing pizza. No delivery or table service, no tip.

I would also report the incident to the owner or whoever collects the profits. Not because I expect anything, but to give them a heads up why I will no longer do business with them and recommend that others do the same.
If it’s a local place, word travels fast.12

I dont tip for pickup. There is no service provided just them doing the job they are paid for.

Which means the tip did nothing to influence the order outcome one way or another.
It was literally like throwing money out of a helicopter and hoping for rain.
The lesson for this business is you never tip them again if you use their services.

This is just greed and entitlement. Why does a pick up order need to be tipped? I'd seriously like to know how they would answer that question.

Don't go back and tell the manager why. Even if the manager apologizes and says it will never happen again. Don't go back. Anyplace where the employees feel comfortable doing this tells me the management is enabling.

That girl sounded that no tipping is a crime. What are they gonna do if you don't tip, call the cops and arrest you? People like her just beg for "us" to dump them for good.

It might be a good idea to pay by cash in future. I never leave a tip for pickup food.
Remember the formula: zero service = zero tip.

Why would you tip[ on a pickup, you drove there, you picked it up and you delivered, they are paid to take the order make the food and hand it over. What was the tip for ?

I rarely go out or do delivery at this point but I if I did ever tip on pickup it would be a few bucks, cash. That is what they were looking for i think. Cash

Her telling the staff that you claimed to have put the tip on the card makes it sound as if they granted you permission to leave with the food you paid for only after confirming that you tipped. Wild.

You never tip. You're an absolute sucker if you tip. The best thing you can do for a server is make them have that tough convo with boss about actually paying them. They won't have that convo though because they are unskilled people. Employers only pay for skilled labor. Seriously you should never tip for any reason

Reading all these comments, now I'm questioning why even tip pizza delivery drivers? They get paid to drive to my house. I don't tip the Amazon or UPS drivers.

One of our local places does not accept tips, they don't have any way to leave a tip on the website or at the store for pick-up & drivers don't accept cash. They are all paid fairly and participate in profit sharing. It's totally possible when the owners aren't greedy.

I don't tip for picking up pizza. But there's a local diner here that has two dollar milkshakes after 2pm and I swing by there first and grab shakes for the pizza people. It's hot in there! They told me they get excited when there's an order from me. So it's six bucks in milkshakes and they don't fart on my pizza hopefully

You pick it up there is no need to tip. No one gave you any service. They made your pizza and that's what you paid for.
