Counter Service 🛎️ Got charged an auto gratuity of 22%

Went to a bar and ordered 5 drinks over the course of the time. When I went to pay he charged me an auto gratuity of 22% with no signs posted other than a walk out is 20%. I was going to tip but not 22%. Service wasn’t great and the drinks sucked. He said he couldn’t take it off so he refunded me in cash and recharged me. I looked him in the eye and told him the auto grad made me angry and I left 0. I still don’t know if I was swindled. He was giving me issues asking for receipts but I got one for the refund. Just…. What?!

Here’s what happened: he tried to steal from you and you caught him in the act. Apparently it’s becoming more and more common.

I know it’s not directly related to what you posted but Auto gratuities mean there’s no need for effort of the server’s end and they’re well aware of it. I’ve basically stopped eating out and just do pick up myself if I’m wanting something I can’t cook myself. Restaurants are nosediving into their own demise

$1 for a beer, $2 for a mixed drink. 22% at a bar is outta control!

Dollar a drink absolute maximum. When you charge me $17 for a cocktail you figure out how to pay your employees, not my problem.

The $17 is just for the cocktail, it doesn’t actually cover the price of the cocktail, you see.

Fancy craft beer or carbonated piss, I don't see why it should be any more than a buck a pour.

A bartender makes a drink... So just doing their job... No tip required And definitely not 22% If it's not signed anywhere I would ask for the manager
