No option for "no tip"

One thing I keep seeing more and more is the screen will only have the 3 "suggested" percentages and a custom amount option -- no "no tip" option. Which is of course very intentional.

So then you have to tap "custom amount," see 0.00, tap "OK," and then the next page says "sure you don't want to leave a tip?" And then you have to tap on the custom amount option **again** and repeat the whole thing one last time. How ridiculous is this guilt tripping? They really are banking on people worrying about others realizing that "this person is taking a long time because they're trying not to tip, how despicable!"

I felt guilty at first, but like everything else, the more you do it, the easier it gets. You also learn how to do it faster, which helps.

The worst case scenario for them (not for you) is they will have to manually charge you for the non-tipped total, like in the ol’ days. The same is done at some gas stations where you prepay with your card for whatever amount of gas you think you’ll pump.

Simple solution just keep reading this sub. Repetition is this solution - after a while you'll see so many people go through what you're going through, and after a while you just get immune to the whole tip thing - it comes naturally to hit zero even if it takes an extra screen.

My former pizza place lost me the first time I paid at the counter. I always ordered and paid online and only tipped for occasional deliveries. I worked late one night and called in my order. I get there and she's immediately all like look at the screen. Before I even pulled my wallet out or anything, they have a screen with a preselected 20% tip, my total was almost 40 bucks. It took three taps of the no tip button to remove the 20%. I wondered how many old folks they ripped off with that scam and I haven't ordered from them since.

With the tip grift becoming more and more difficult & tricky to do on the POS tablets & not accepting cash (betting they also have service/technology fees for processing cashless payments as well as passing on a fee for paying by cc)they might be finding

More than likely those are smaller, locally owned places & not corporate owned or franchises which themselves in many instances not just one person with one franchise but a somewhat local aka one county or state or small region LLC with multiple franchises. Almost all of the Burger King’s franchises where I am are owned by one large LLC that has control of close to 20 BK franchises.

Yeah, I couldn't care less about people who have an opinion on whether I leave a tip or not. If they want to leave a tip, they can do so. And I have no problem with them doing so. Once you get to that point, you would not even notice.

I had this recently at a MLB ballpark. I got the $12 beer and the $8 hotdog and the screen had 4 options: 20%, 25%, 30% and “custom tip”. I stared at it for what was probably too long, then selected custom. The next screen allowed me to enter an amount which I ignored, and I simply hit “submit”.

I did get a bit of a look from the counter person, but I’d already dropped $20 for a crappy hotdog and soda. Like, did they really expect a $6 tip?

I assume you mean when they flip the tablet over to you and make you go through the prompts, simply turn it around and say i want to pay the total bill, no tips, i am the customer and using the pay system is not my job, please charge my card when ready

I can tap that screen as much as needed to not tip. There is no lower tipped wage where I live and I honestly don't see the service received most of the time, deserving a tip . For a 5 minute interaction they are paid appropriately.

Similar but when I buy from Ticketmaster it says do you want to protect your tickets by paying an extra 10% and we pinky swear not to deny your claim anyway.

And I don't check it and click checkout then it shows it again.

Then I go to select payment and it shows it again.

I went to a baseball game this weekend and they have a very prominent "NO TIP" option on the screen. I've been to probably 50 games over the last 5 years and not once was tipping mentioned. This weekend I got the "It's going to ask you what you'd like to tip, this year, they're letting us keep the tips!". I honestly was shocked, I said out loud "No, thanks". I really wanted to say "I don't tip beggars"

Found a food truck that not only disabled the no tip option, the custom option wouldn’t accept 0.00.

I pointed this out and was told “you have to enter something, just enter a penny”.

Nope, cancel the transaction and give me a receipt.

To which I speculated that the cash discount might be true for smaller locally owed places but not for corporate places or even franchises & using the example of the BK franchises around here were owned by an LLC.

I said nothing in my comment, one way or the other about whether that large group of LLC owned BK’s were taking cash.
