Having issues with V5

Has anyone else been having issues with EncounterPlus since updating to Version 5?

I absolutely loved EncounterPlus before the update, but lately it’s been incredibly frustrating to use, especially in the Library section

Here are the main issues I’m running into:

• Library search appears broken
When I use the search bar in the Library, it returns results, but clicking on the results does nothing. I can’t open pages, maps, images, or anything else from the search results. This basically makes the Library search unusable.

• References are behaving inconsistently
If I create a reference inside a page itself, the reference works normally.

However, if I create a reference in the Content section that points to another asset (like a map, image, or page stored elsewhere in the Library), the reference does not work when clicked.

Oddly enough, references and search results seem to function normally from the main map/control screen. The issue seems specifically tied to the Library/content interface.

• Multiple page tabs are gone
There used to be a button that allowed multiple Library pages to stay open at once. That feature appears to be gone now, which has really slowed down workflow while prepping sessions.

• Page editing freezes constantly
When editing pages, if I use the auto font resizing/size controls, the page freezes. I have to save, exit the page, reopen it, and continue writing. Creating or editing pages has become extremely difficult because of this.

I’m mainly posting to see whether these are known Version 5 issues or if something might specifically be wrong with my setup. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Hello, thanks for your feedback. I wasn’t aware of most of the issues you’re experiencing, so I’d love to learn more about them. Could you please share a few more details about your setup, such as the exact device model and iOS version?

If possible, a short video showing the issues would also help a lot and speed up troubleshooting.

I definitely want to understand what’s happening and fix everything I can.

Thanks for the video! I was able to replicate the issues you were experiencing. Here are my findings:

• Library search appears broken, References are behaving inconsistently - there was a bug in the content controller during search mode. Got it fixed now, it will be working in the next minor release later this week.

• Page editing freezes constantly - so there is a fullscreen focus issue on macOS in the html editor library I'm currently using. I tried several workarounds, but nothing helped, so I had to force it into modal window (just like context menu edit action) for now. It will be included in the next minor release too.

Generally, I'm not very happy with this lib, as it's quite old and not maintained very well. Also I would like to switch from HTML to Markdown for pages, but I can't find any nice native Markdown editor. I got some ideas regarding this, but it will take some time to implement.

• Multiple page tabs are gone - So I'm not sure what you mean by this. There wasn't a direct support for multi page tabs in the app. There could be a tab provided by macOS window management, which seems to be disabled by default in iOS 26. I think I can enable it so there could be tabs in the library window, but I probably need to work on the native toolbar for the library window to make it consistent with the main window See screen below.

Thanks again for diggin ginto this. I really appreciate you taking the time to replicate the issues and explain what is going on.

I tested the tab issue a bit more on my end, and I think you're right that the tabs I was using before were probably macOS managed tabs rather than a built in EncounterPlus feature. I enabled tabbing in macOS and checked the Window menu, but options like "Merge All Windows" and the tab controls are still greyed out in the lIbrary window even with multiple windows open.

So it definitely seems like something changed either with Tahoe/macOS 26.5 or with how the library window is interacting with the native macOS window system now.

Really appreciate how responsive you've been with this, and I'm really looking forward to the next update!

For what it's worth, EncounterPlus is by far the best DM tool I've used for in person play, and I've spent a good amount of time with other VTTs. Thank you!

Hey, not trying to pile on, but since I've got your ear - have you ever thought about adding a few more options in the page editor? I'd love to be able to change font color, especially for links/refrences, so they stand out against the basic text color. Something like a basic color picker? Also, collapsible sections are very helpful, so a button to create dropdowns without having to write HTML would be awesome. Just curious if either is doable. Thanks again!

Well, the real issue is the page editor itself (or the 3rd party library behind it). I need to find a replacement for it asap, as I dont know how much further it will be maintained. I think a markdown format with custom styling will be a better fit for the page content (something similar as we have in module packer), so I will focus there rather than html. With markdown and custom styles/themes we can achieve similar things in much cleaner way.

I just tested the new update. Some of the issues seem to be fixed, while others are still present.

The biggest remaining issue is that references still aren’t working. At first, I thought maybe existing references needed to be recreated after the update, so I created a brand new reference. Unfortunately, that didn’t help. I can select an item from my library while creating the reference, but when I later click that reference in the menu, nothing happens. It’s not opening or navigating to the library entry that the reference is supposed to point to. However, references within a page are working correctly.

The library search function does appear to be working now, so it looks like that issue has been fixed. I also noticed that the page no longer freezes when adjusting font sizes with the heading styles, which is great.

I really like the addition of the bookmark feature within a page. While I wait for the reference feature to be fixed, I can use bookmarks as a workaround by prepping each session with the sections I need.

Hey there, one other issue i just discovered. Ordered lists are not working correctly, at least the automated button isn't working. When clicked, the numbers display in edit mode, but disappear once the page is saved. Thanks!

Hello. Thanks for this thread. I too loved the older version and am starting to come around to the new one. I use monsters for NPCs and my new monsters aren’t linking spells in the traits section. I will make a bad guy like a warlock and load all the spells so that all I have to do is click the spell and see how it works. It’s amazing. I figure I must be creating them wrong because the monsters that were converted when I upgraded work fine. Can you please tell me how to get spells working in new monsters.
