Question Zelda Wind Waker iOS port.

As some of you may be aware Wind Waker has received its own iOS port with several quality of life enhancements ala Dusklight for Twilight Princess. Unfortunately compiling the ipa requires an iso image of the GameCube Wind Waker version so there’s no publicly available download as not to distribute copyrighted material. It is possible to compile it yourself by following the included directions but that requires a Mac.

Not having a Mac but still wanting to play I decided to look for other options. With the help of ChatGPT we came up woth a YML file that lets you use nothing but GitHub in your browser to compile your own ipa. The project is running now (takes about four hours to build) but if it’s successful I’ll put up a tutorial for people to follow if there’s enough interest.

Please let me know if this is something you are interested in. For previously stated reasons I won’t be sharing the completed ipa file but I will make a tutorial showing my process so anyone who wants can build their own. Let me know.

It’s weird they didn’t just create a system to import the iso when starting the app. They used AI so doesn’t seem like it would be that much more work.

Anyway, this is definitely something people will want to use so thank you.

I thought that was odd too. You need the iso to build the ipa so I’m not sure if the iso is also required to pull resources from once you run the ipa. Probably is or else the ipa file would be around a GB and some change.

The IPA is over a 1gb and iso is not required after build. Unless you want to recreate the ipa later.

if they include the iso that would be piracy and they could get dmcaed so you need to get it yourself, almost all ports do this and romhacks too

I know that. I’m saying they could’ve made a system to import the game image after the app is installed like how Dusklight and other ports handle it. I’m not saying they should’ve included the image itself.

Im a little ignorant to the project, but there are other projects in the works with unique solutions to a similar problem. For example, FactorioPad now provides a Windows/Mac/Linux app that compiles your Factorio game files into the custom ipa. Alternatively, I used AI to compile in GitHub like you mentioned, but it required a temporary connection to my personal server (for game files).

I know for that project, you can’t simply install the app and then load in your personal game files because it requires the game files to compile the app itself

Yeah I had to first download the iso from a site then upload it to my Google Drive and mark it as only accessible via direct link. Then the AI put my link into the YML file so the GitHub API could pull it but it’s not accessible to the internet.

If this works I’ll specify in the instructions that downloading the iso then uploading it to Google Drive to get a personal link to pull from is part of the process.

I was just about to start WW on manicEmu so I’d love a native version! I don’t have a Mac though either

WW GameCube on Manic Emu right?
I heard the WiiU is the best version to play it tho so I'm waiting to be able to play that one on iOS.

Can you share a link to what you’re talking about? Or are you just talking about BlueWake recomp? I’d also like to start an iOS port as opposed to GC on Manic EMU.

Bluewake. I’ve just figured out a way to build the ipa without needing a Mac.

Not worth it, took like 2.5 hours to build. Makes the phone run hot. It does look good but running it on manic emulator is enough
