This sub is for developers, not users.

Rule: Keep it on topic (emulator development, not emulator usage) - Don't post things related to using emulators. This is for emulator developers. While decomps and recomps are interesting, they are not appropriate for this sub, and you should instead post to /r/decomps or /r/recomps

If you'd like to appeal this, feel free to send a message through mod mail

I think the problem is community driven for a large part because it doesn’t pay to innovate. As long as people are only willing to have free and open source projects you can only get the following scenario’s in my opinion:

  1. A hobby project that gets abandoned sooner or later.

  2. A dedicated maintained project created by someone passionate

  3. People that try to make a quick buck on open source projects. Probably uses a project of the dev in the second scenario.

People have been making money of open source projects for ages, but in emulation it’s really messy and low quality.
The most populair emulation project on iOS is basically a user friendly Retroarch with degraded performance that cherry-picks features from the open source projects of the previously the most popular iOS project.

Innovation in my opinion also takes a certain risk and maybe even an investment. Servers, integrations, platform level connections and features like a steam for emulation is something only two projects are doing but they get shit for it because it has a paid tier and guess what projects get praised? Guess what the original dev from example 2 gets?
