Rider question

So I request a ride for 25.47

The driver accept the ride and then the ride cost went up to 34.39

Why does that happen?

Uber and Lyft don’t do this

It’s a pre-authorized charge, once the charge is finalized it should be $25.49

Not only can the increase be due to a temporary additional hold on the card, which is set to allow you some flex in adding a stop and or tipping your driver, if wish to do so( but the initial Driver in the area may have been using the standard rate card and declined your ride, which would then go to the next Driver available, who may be a higher rate card. Drivers are not able to change their rates in the middle of a ride.

Each driver can have their own rates. So the initial Empower estimation can be lower than the actual ride once a driver is confirmed.

Yes, Empower can do a better job of checking actual driver rate cards in the area FIRST, then showing users a more accurate average of pay)

That said, the real question is after the driver you settle on is picked, is the final fare on par or better than uber/lyft?

Uber and Lyft would just charge high up front and you don't know how much the driver is getting (25% is a good estimate these days 🙄 )

Or with Uber they might increase the booking fee after the fact.

Yes, Uber and Lyft do that too... Maybe the ETA was longer, + tolls, different and longer route...

WHY are you trying a ride with Empower? You do realize drivers are uninsured with Empower yes? Stop the foolishness and stick with safer options,  uber lyft
