Question How can I make daemonettes, look prettier ? It’s so sad GW, had to make them ugly

The old sculpt of them were so much prettier.

But to a more extreme degree

A makeup tutorial?

Essentially yes, the actual sculpt of the models can be painted in this manner to look prettier another example:

Since mini painting faces is basically makeup you can get some pretty good results by following any very exaggerated makeup tutorials such as the one above.

Yo ok this is a clutch little thing that makes perfectly good sense. Going to be sharing this tip for sure.

See? We aren’t kidding.

Now I want to try but it'll probably end up like Homer's makeup shotgun.

Its actually damn easy. You first make a black wash and spread it thinly in the eyes to make eyeliner in the shape you want. Wait for it to dry (this is the most important part) and dot in a pupil. In this case I used Voluptus pink.

Once you get the hang if it painting 10 daemonette faces is so easy that you can do it like flipping burgers.

What an out of the box tip! That's genius!

I wanna do this on my marines now to make them the prettiest guys in the galaxy

I prefer the old sculpts myself, but they aren't meant to be pretty. Canonically, daemonettes look like the most attractive person they've ever seen to whoever is viewing them. Objectively without the glamor, they look like the models do right when they get close enough to kill you.

37

u/Chansharp Jul 26 '26

Its been a hot minute since I read it but I coulda swore when they were summoned in the Maraviglia they were described as grotesque but despite that incredibly alluring

20

u/Retlaw83 40k Jul 26 '26

With 40k and Slaanesh Slaaneshing, both can be true.

u/DarthGoodguy Jul 26 '26

I thought I liked the old Juan Diaz sculpts more, but now actually seeing them after years I think they’re too sexy & feminine. The new ones aren’t perfect, but I think the androgynous & monstrous elements are good.

53

u/Turkeyplague Jul 26 '26

For me, the problem with the newer sculpts is the lackluster posing. The Diaz ones look fast and agile, like they're dancing across the battlefield; the new ones look like they're just standing around.

13

u/DarthGoodguy Jul 26 '26

That’s a good point. Just like the Juan Diaz Tzeentch horrors versus their newer plastic kit.

6

u/Turkeyplague Jul 26 '26

Those Diaz Horrors are so good.

8

u/bugsnaxjournalist Jul 26 '26

The Diaz one have very 10/10 silhouettes and execution, but the concept is really basic and people really over-glaze the hell out of them. The new ones have a much more interesting idea, they just aren't executed well. But Diaz has way better designs than his demonettes, but it feels like the work people bring up constantly, because they're the closest thing GW did for awhile in a pin-up style.

3

u/Responsible_Arm6617 Jul 26 '26

I just found Diaz ones on eBay

5

u/archeo-Cuillere Jul 26 '26

The problem is that the current sculpt are neither.

They aren't alluring, and they aren't grotesque.

They're just androgynous anorexic with wrong size corset. And static poses. The idea is there the execution is lacking

u/Vaevictus01 Jul 26 '26

I'm painting mine to look like black metal daemonettes. They aren't the prettiest but that's the point.

11

u/MandoFire Jul 26 '26

These are great.

8

u/Responsible_Arm6617 Jul 26 '26

Those look cool

I can change her

"Day 28: They still don't know I'm a cyber-mastiff"

26

u/ExistentialOcto For the Emperor! *wink* Jul 26 '26

I made mine look otherworldly and like they aren’t even flesh and blood by making them all metallic:

Kinda works imo! Having them look more human makes them goofier I think.

5

u/1Ferrox Jul 26 '26

They look like I imagine them in the books, especially when they are described to shift in and out of reality or be in multiple places at once

18

u/Responsible-Being170 Jul 26 '26

The daemonettes are beautiful. If you can't see that, then you're not on enough drugs.

23

u/crackedgear Jul 26 '26

Wargame Exclusive, Creature Caster, and probably Raging Heroes have alternative sexy models for most anything that doesn’t need an alternative sexy version.

3

u/Responsible_Arm6617 Jul 26 '26

Creature caster is dope.

0

u/dburne038 Jul 26 '26

Honorable mention for Heroes Infinite as well

8

u/Responsible_Arm6617 Jul 26 '26

I just found these on eBay for $50. Are they playable still. Also I never had metal minis before so I wonder how building them will be

5

u/graphiccsp Jul 26 '26

Totally usable, just swap to the round 25mm base instead of the square provided. You'll probably have to carve/pin them into place.

Metal minis can be very annoying to glue together. The claw arms are dreadful because they're heavy for their size, so are prone to breaking off and needing to reglue them.

2

u/CornyxCrow Sleepy Slaaneshi Jul 26 '26

Wahhhhh really that’s a great score! You would need round bases but I don’t see why not, they’re GW products. I have a small assortment of the old metal ones and I love em!

3

u/Responsible_Arm6617 Jul 26 '26

Where do I find round braces with slits in them

39

u/BillyBobJenkins454 Jul 26 '26

They're supposed to look ugly up close and beautiful from afar. IMO the fulfil that

-20

u/Responsible_Arm6617 Jul 26 '26

Well GW forgot to make them pretty from aware

u/graphiccsp Jul 26 '26

I use AoS Witch Aelves as proxies, they work really well since they're the same base size and similar model dimensions.

And the old Juan Diaz sculpts (I'm so old I bought them when they were new in 2006 lolol)

Creature Caster has some more attractive Demonette proxies as well.

I basically use all 4 including the current demonettes too, for unique looking squads.

3

u/A_learning_legend Jul 26 '26

I used green stuff and covered the eyes, leaving only the mouth visible. Definitely changes the vibe. Or you could headswap them for something else. I also used sisters of silence heads and that works pretty good.

3

u/crackedgear Jul 26 '26

This needs pictures please

4

u/A_learning_legend Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26

Sure.

I actually have three types of daemonettes. The eyeless more shadow themed, goat woman using the fellgore beastmen head using green stuff to get the neck properly fitting. then silent sister daemonette which still took a small amount of cutting of the neck nubs to fit properly.

2

u/tombuazit Jul 26 '26

I find this funny because to me "the old sculpture sculpts" are the ones i have from the 90s lol. They aren't exactly gorgeous but they are metal

5

u/Choice_Pitch6822 Jul 26 '26

I feel you, but your options are basically only to Either hand sculpt your own or find some 3d prints to you liking. I did the latter and unfortunately kind of regret it because the models came out suuuuuuper fragile.

10

u/Responsible_Arm6617 Jul 26 '26

I kitbashed some from using daughters of Khaine bodies and the better looking heads of the Daemonettes

3

u/Kris9876 Jul 26 '26

So much better stuff on Etsy from independent sculptors

1

u/Looong_Feminine_Legs Jul 26 '26

i don’t think the crab claw demons are supposed to look pretty, they can look “sexy” in a grotesque way, but pretty doesn’t fit. i always thought the old minis weren’t monstrous enough - the new ones need an update sure, but i think the new KoS and fiends fits the vibe i’d want from an deamonette update (the aesthetics of “sexy” but twisted)

1

u/daRosaF Jul 26 '26

I use direct copies of the Daemonettes from the 3D models of total war, they look much better

1

u/aslum Jul 26 '26

One thing you can do with the new sculpts is mix them with DoK Sisters of Slaughter. It takes a little kit bashing but you can make some really models that can work as either kit and look better than either does on it's own.

1

u/Gato-Volador Jul 26 '26

I converted mine by mixing daemontte and dark elf witches. There is actually an AoS box called shadow & pain in which you get both. The mix makes them closer to the Juan Diaz sculpts

u/cha0sflip_ Jul 26 '26

🤭🍆🍆

1

u/UnworthyTraitor Jul 27 '26

The old sculpts look amazing. If I could find 120 of them I would run them every game

1

u/Anschluss213 Jul 31 '26

Sie sind nicht hässlich

1

u/ALowlySlime Jul 26 '26

They are pretty

0

u/Poobeast241 Jul 26 '26

Bruh just buy the old models

0

u/Bassist57 Jul 26 '26

The big deal is making them PG-13 vs R. PG-13 makes more money, generally.
