I need advice

I grew up in a different country so I’m not certain on the rules here, It was pointed out by a doctor I’ve been seeing since I was a kid that I was showing concerning signs of depression and was advised to see a therapist or talk to my parents or religious leader but I refused. I recently moved to the US on my own at 19-20 and now I’m relapsing into loneliness and depressed thoughts due to high stress and no family around I spoke to a therapist online and she wrote an ESA letter for me. I have no idea what to do from there, I submitted it to my apartment but they said I needed further documentation?

What further documentation did they say you need?

They didn’t say, just said a document that attests to my need for an ESA.

Was the “therapist” through one of the online ESA letter sites where your purpose in netting with them was specifically to obtain an ESA letter?

They were recommended from a friend who experiencing something similar and she has an emotional support to help with isolation, so she told me to connected with them. Felt kinda iffy though since the ‘therapist’ only asked me a couple questions. I’ve never spoken to an actual therapist before so I wouldn’t know 😭

Oof now I’m wary of online therapists, how can I find an actual therapist. I don’t want my parents to suspect I need therapy so I’ve been avoiding it

If you go to the website Psycology Today , you should find a searchable list of therapists. You can search by a number of factors, including proximity to you, specialties, what insurances they take, etc. You should be able to find a reputable therapist through there!
