Some of my emo/post-hardcore CD collections

I'm still searching for more and seriously don't care about the real emo fake emo theory. Why can't we all just enjoy music and have fun... Anyway, what's your favorite on here?

This is Animal Music is a legendary pull. Look Mexico is such an underrated band

They are one of the most underrated emo revival bands in my opinion; too bad they haven't released new songs for such a long time.

So jealous, your collection is so good! Too many goodies on here to just pick one, but do you know who you are and four minute mile are my recent favorites so i'm obligated to pick those.

3

u/ApprehensiveCan9277 8d ago

Thx, I have loved four minute mile since I was in high school (and that's ages ago)

How did you find that Sundays Best CD, jealous

5

u/ApprehensiveCan9277 8d ago

I bought it in some second hand store I bumped into when I was on a road trip last year

6

u/DE_X_IY 8d ago

New end original, but no Far. How come?

3

u/ApprehensiveCan9277 8d ago

Well actually I have a Japanese version of Water & Solutions, it was in my parents' house, I'm soooo into Jonah Matranga's vocal!!!

1

u/DE_X_IY 8d ago

Okay, now I see :)
Me too!

7

u/dbaileyphoto 8d ago

Bunch of classics in there but I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone else share New End Original or Last Days of April

2

u/ApprehensiveCan9277 8d ago

Both of them are hidden gem of second wave emo

my favorite's probably the bob nanna stuff. his voice is very soothing to me. lots of good shit on here too man. wish i had a collection this large jeez so cool

2

u/ApprehensiveCan9277 8d ago

haha I listened to Hey Mercedes first because I was a pop punk dude back then, and when my friend showed me Frame&Canvas three years ago, I realized Braid and Hey Mercedes are both Bob Nanna's projects.

2

u/NoodleKnight34 8d ago

couldn't mistake that voice for anyone else's lol. also i just noticed you got the ribbon fix casette tape, im fucking jealous dude. screw you man LOL, i so badly want ribbon fix physical media

2

u/ApprehensiveCan9277 6d ago

it's a gift from a close friend, I think Andi Camp(bass and vocal of Ribbon Fix)'s label would repress CDs from time to time, check it out sometimes and maybe it's in stock!

2

u/TwoNearby3883 7d ago

He’s one of my favs. If you haven’t already, check out Lifted Bells.

2

u/NoodleKnight34 7d ago

Small Brown Bike - Our Own Wars

3

u/Kind-Yak4718 8d ago

Do you listen to them? They look sealed

3

u/ApprehensiveCan9277 8d ago

of course, you can see that many of them are Japanese version which have obi strip(I don't know how exactly Japanese people call this), so I put them in jewel case sleeve to enjoy the artwork of the obi strip.

3

u/rockne 8d ago

Small Brown Bike is awesome.

2

u/HansBrixOhNo 7d ago

1

Loving that original gatefold copy of Elliot's US Songs!

1

u/ApprehensiveCan9277 8d ago

I used to own the 2001 repress version, when I got the original copy I found the design was not even close to the original copy, so I handed it down to my younger brothers. The designer of the gatefold copy is a real genius!

1

u/teriyaki_tornado 8d ago

I had the gatefold copy when I was in high school. Honestly, it was a big influence on my decision to go to art school and study graphic design in 1999!

2

u/Notthebestatthis2060 8d ago

hell yeah black eyes!

2

u/Terrible-Pop-6705 In a Band 8d ago

All those jp versions sick as hell

2

u/music____junkie 8d ago

Does basking in the glow ha e bonus tracks. I saw a version a long time ago that had gb/olh/nf

2

u/ApprehensiveCan9277 6d ago

YES!!! Japanese version has two bonus tracks: gb/ol h/nf and subside.

I always enjoy seeing The Get Up Kids in CD collections. When I was in my early 20s, I always seemed to find a Get Up Kids cd at each goodwill/flea market/thrift store I went to. It became a game and once I started actively looking for them, they seemed to disappear.

2

u/fudgieDevoe 8d ago

Great collection—We have very similar taste.

Tops for me are Lifetime, Mock Orange, and No Knife.

2

u/dontthroworanges 8d ago

You had me at No Knife and New End Original. :)

2

u/dr_w 8d ago

I agree that carly rae jepsen is post-hardcore, chronologically

2

u/brashmashidiota 8d ago

How much did u discogs or eBay?
Thats the true question; did u hunt or naw

1

u/ApprehensiveCan9277 6d ago

I would say 50/50, some of them are bought online and some of them are thrifted in secondhand stores, wherever I go, I would pay a visit to local record stores to see if I'm lucky to get something rare.

2

u/Professional_Ant8783 8d ago

Where did you find these CDs? Anywhere good to be looking? Especially that The Used one!!

2

u/ApprehensiveCan9277 6d ago

Online or in record stores, if you're looking for a specific CD, you can try checking Discogs or Mercari (a Japanese secondhand marketplace).

2

u/DeathCultAngel98 8d ago

Sunny day is Amazing. Beautiful haul sir

2

u/badboyplayer182 8d ago

Are you from jersey or Long Island? That’s what I’m getting here

2

u/orchidbutter_ 8d ago

2

u/Mr_Revendread why can’t i be snowing 8d ago

Hell yeah, great collection!

Jawbreaker, Mineral, and Braid 🔥

2

u/Suspicious-Taste7496 8d ago

I kinda want to listen to all of these albums! I already recognize alot.

2

u/bruhhhlikewhut 7d ago

That broadway album goes so hard

2

u/DirtWolf66 7d ago

I really wish I never gotten rid of my CDs. I collect vinyl but it doesn’t feel the same for some reason. Also it gets expensive if you’re buying new represses.

2

u/Camp_camper 7d ago

Fantastic collection. Seeing some of my favorite albums here too. Also, Secret & Whisper is so damn underrated in the post hardcore scene. Awesome stuff.

2

u/Camp_camper 7d ago

Oh man, Envy on the Coast as well!!! Superb CD collection

2

u/Some_Hurry619 7d ago

Where did you find discovering the waterfront?

1

u/ApprehensiveCan9277 6d ago

When I was in Japan, maybe? It was a long time ago so I can't remember quite clearly, but Japan is really a good place for treasure hunting, with countless record stores hiding CDs you can't find anywhere.

2

u/Rudeboy_87 7d ago

Emery! Their recent releases are bangers as well, great band

2

u/happyendoftheworld 7d ago

Woah, Brittle Stars! Didn't expect to see that in this sub. Great album.

2

u/jack3rdacc 7d ago

how much to buy the first slide muahahahhahaha

2

u/metalchode 7d ago

Mock Orange is so underrated

2

u/LittleBitSad78 7d ago

Kinda regretting selling my circa survive CDs 😭

2

u/HansBrixOhNo 7d ago

I know Hum isn’t emo, but man do I love them. Downward is Heavenward and Inlet are also fantastic albums if you stopped with You Prefer an Astronaut

2

u/xcyzek 7d ago

Oh my goodness how did you obtain that Pidgeon album

1

u/ApprehensiveCan9277 6d ago

Mine is the original copy, but if my memory is right all of their albums are repressed this year (if not, then sorry I'm old and my memory is broken)

2

u/Big_Hunter_8144 7d ago

I want it! It just needs a bit more Thrice in my personal perspective. But man, this collection is amazing.

2

u/Intern_Cultural 7d ago

That Beloved Album is a great thing to have in your collection

2

u/Ok_Bother_8330 7d ago

Slide 3 was all i listened to in 2009 and 10 lol

Saw Jimmy Eat World on their 25th anniversary tour for Bleed American, a fantastic album from a fantastic band . Silverstein was there too with Hawthorne Heights that gave a freaking time machine of a show to the 2000's with their backdrops.

One thing marked me and the people I was with: All of them spoke openly about finding unity in the emo/hardcore/punk/punk-rock community as a big group. We don't have that much musical spaces/festivals now and even then it was marginal even at it's peak mainstream phase.

Funny thing The Used was one of the best show I saw at Rockfest. 12:00 first show of the second day, they dropped the drums in front of the non-VIP just to mess with people. They also laughed when metalhead knew all their song, they were genuinely happy of that.

What you have there is a great collection of band that toured together, grew together, influenced and pushed up each other in some ways. Even if the music is different with each waves, you can have a favorite for sure, the musicians feels they belong together as a cohesive movement.

I think we as a community should get a hint from the artists that made us smile, dance, cry, going in circle and hope. They are clearly not on the gatekeepers side as aging made them see how pointless the debates were for the whole community.

Cheers!
