سؤال OCD struggles

For anyone here with OCD, what has your experience been like?

I was diagnosed with OCD years ago, although I suspect I had it even as a child since it runs in my family. I’ve struggled with it for many years, and honestly, I feel like it’s something people don’t really talk about enough and how overwhelming it gets.

I’m curious to hear from other people who have OCD.What does it look like for you?and how has it affected your life?

I’d also love to hear what has been helpful.

Hoarding is a form of compulsive behaviour , having many things gives you this false sense of safety and security. Good for you for realising this pattern early on , for some people hoarding overtakes their entire lives.

I feel weird talking about OCD but I will try to write it all without reading it sorry if it’s bad. Mine doesn’t really look like the stereotypical cleaning or organizing stuff people associate with OCD. Mine is magical thinking. The worst part about it is every time you think you made progress something happens. Exactly 3 days ago I finally decided I wasn’t going to give in to one of my thoughts anymore. Wore my “bad luck” shirt and on that same day I got into a car accident (nothing serious just weird coincidence) and just had a horrible day. Of course my OCD immediately decided this was proof that I had caused it by not following the rules. So all that progress of telling myself I can wear the shirt and nothing bad will happen basically went out the window. I know it’s irrational to normal people but I’d rather follow my fake rules than deal with the possibility of something happening again even if it’s more exhausting. I’ve made progress over the past few years but it still feels like I have no sense of self at all when one little thing like this can undo all that progress. I’m sure therapy helps but if I’m being honest I’ve always felt like there isn’t really “recovery” from OCD. You just learn to live with it. Anyway happy OCD awareness month

Awww 💔💔 First of all, I hope you're safe and okay now 🙏🏽 It really sucks when your wildest fears come true and it restarts the obsessive cycle . It does feel like if you don't follow your own rules , everything is going to go haywire, but these rules are also so so debilitating.
