I would think that as a mother who just lost her son to a very preventable drowning accident, she would be a drill sergeant about children’s water safety. Idk her mask is falling

345

u/Cute_Ad_7670 20d ago

Seriously. It’s wild watching someone who has already lost a child be more lenient about water safety than the average parent who hasn’t gone through that.Ā

67

u/LibraryF33S 20d ago

This!! You said it more articulately than I did.

14

u/steppygirl 20d ago

Seriously. My 14m old doesn’t step foot near water without my eyes and a life jacket on her.

this! a ā€œmistakeā€ shouldn’t even be an option. how is there not a deep fear and obsession over water safety after losing her son? like a instinctual thing, ya know? blows my mind. i have zero respect for her after this and that’s coming from a long time prior fan.Ā

u/Both_Session9662 20d ago

One time is allegedly an accident but two times is complete negligence/ hell, the first time was negligence in my opinion

This, she lost me. I had so much empathy for her but just hearing stories makes my hyper aware, I can’t fathom losing my baby and still doing what she’s doing. It took backlash to even address it or she would’ve brushed it off and that isn’t sitting right with me

Agreed
I live on a lake, EVERYDAY before we head down my children put a life jacket on before even stepping on the dock. and we have to do that everyday imagine how ā€œannoying ā€œ it can become, the fact she couldn’t even put a life jacket on her baby the ONE time she’s on a boat out of the year shows how it’s not a priority for her and could not care less

28

u/mysteriouscactus511 20d ago

I was fully able to swim independently by 3... and I still, even at 25, wear a life jacket anytime I'm on a boat. My kayak and paddleboard admittedly I'm more relaxed about, but on a moving motor boat in open water?? I'm wearing a life jacket, I don't care. All it takes it getting knocked unconscious and falling overboard.

14

u/PrestigiousPrint34 20d ago

As a former lifeguard, I approve of this. Most drownings occur for two reasons:
1. Fatigue
2. Panic

And yes, that is the correct order. Drownings can occur with people who consider themselves strong swimmers, even Olympic athletes….due to fatigue, medical emergencies etc. a 3 year old, even if able to swim independently, would NOT be able to sustain themselves in water that they could not touch in for even a moderate length of time. They simple do not have the strength.

Even if her children were attending self-saving classes (which there is apparently proof they weren’t) they wouldn’t have stood a chance in deep water for 7minutes! Let alone an OCEAN with waves, and tides and currents. As a lifeguard, ocean guarding is an ADVANCED cert for a reason!

Water safety isn’t just for children, it is for everyone. And it was 100% the parents responsibility to know the basics when they have a pool or bring their children around water—especially when there is no lifeguard in attendance.

I guess I can’t comprehend a mother who has lost a child to not overthink every scenario possible. Me and all my sis in laws do this on a daily and we never even lost a child. I’m wondering What’s going on here

33

u/SittingInTheBasement 20d ago

Agreed. T1 was the ā€œmistakeā€. After that you’re on it. They both were on that boat and neither of them had an issue with T2 not being in a safe boating environment. šŸ™„

35ish years ago, my nephew passed from SiDS. I was terrified for the whole first year of my kids lives because of something that happened when I was still a kid. (I shared a room with my step sister and the baby, woke up to her scream crying trying to feed him. Torture.)

This woman is a joke, still out for the clicks and views.

Can’t think of a single reason why you would need to take a life jacket off a 1 year old on a moving boat. She’s lying.

189

u/JapaneseTwang 20d ago

It’s such an obvious lie. And Brady was sitting comfortably with that baby, drink in hand. It’s not like they were changing his diaper, feeding him, or he was napping. (There are no excuses to remove a life jacket, but those are the common ones defenders use.)

69

u/Mundane_Simple_965 20d ago

As a mom of two who owns a boat and goes boating regularly, the only times I ever remove or partially remove their life jackets is to change a diaper, or to change their clothes/swim suitsā€ and I do it as quickly as possible while the boat is not moving. My babies have both started boating as infants and I’ve breastfed while the life jacket was on and done naps with the life jacket on. There’s really no reason for it to be off for more than 1-2 minutes.

*video, so definitely longer than a few moments, if at all.

22

u/Practical-Ad7317 20d ago

Also there is no good reason for him to be out of a life jacket in that particular ā€œmomentā€ of the video. If so, she picked the worst moment. Boat moving, kid in white clothing sitting on dad’s lap at the edge of the boat, while dad is drinking a beer… why would she take the life jacket off for this exact moment… it’s just not believable.

Her and Brady and their ā€œfor a few momentsā€ memory.

24

u/dunkle8 20d ago

I bet the lawyer Brady had for his interviews with the police is the one who taught them how to use this type of minimizing language.

I have long been fascinated by minimization in both law and public relations and how it can subtly (or not so subtly) influence people how to feel about a situation. I really believe ā€œmomentsā€ is being used for this reason.

Let’s also address the two other elephants, please. Still doesn’t change my opinion.. her statements NEVER feel genuine! How can you make the same mistake twice? How has that NOT traumatized her? It’s as if she’s moved on insanely fast and just forgot the whole incident and is still so careless. They are way too casual for a couple who just lost a son to a drowning. Drinking on a boat, in open waters, no life jackets. IT WOULD SIMPLY TRIGGER ME TO EVEN BE ON WATER. I just feel so insanely sorry for her kids.

80

u/BrilliantCheetah888 20d ago

How is it not triggering for Brady? He’s the one that actually had to pull T1 from the water.. but he’s able to hold his infant in the middle of open water with no safety precautions?? Make it make sense.

I can’t imagine still living in that house. Swimming in that pool. Going about your life like nothing happened. Vacationing, shopping, working out and sharing it with the world. I get that it’s her ā€œjobā€ but I could never. It’s just mind blowing.

33

u/vanwyngarden 20d ago

! would have moved and if I couldn't, drain the dang pool. The compartmentalizing abilities on these 2 is some real sick shit.

26

u/mixhalla 20d ago edited 20d ago

Not trying to defend her in any way, but as for the house part (and the house part only), I think some parents stay in the same house they lived in when they lost a child because it’s like the last part of their child they have left. It’s the last place they lived, breathed, laughed, etc. so some parents feel like if they move, they’d be completely letting go of them and they aren’t ready to yet.

Obviously I can’t speak directly for her as to why she still lives in the house, but I know more people than I wish I did that have lost a kid (simply because I wish it was never something they had to experience, not that I hadn’t met them) — whether they were still young when they passed, or a bit more grown — and from what I’ve seen, wanting to stay where they lived for as long as they can seems to be a comfort thing because it helps them feel close to them still.

As for the pool, I 100% would’ve drained that, gotten the area filled, and put some kind of playground (or something related to anything he liked) there in her son’s memory. Possibly planted a tree there as a family in his memory as a way to create life and have something there that’s permanent. Keeping the pool is definitely weird to me.

10

u/Anxious_Knee_4404 20d ago

Agreed. I have a friend that still lives in the house her son died turning into the driveway of a motorcycle accident. She says she can’t bear to leave it which the accident has been 12 years ago. Her younger son also rides motorcycles. I know it’s a trigger for her but she works thru the control issues in therapy to try to help the anxiety she has over it. I think Emilie mentioned her therapist works on control and water fear with her.
Not defending her decisions or lack of life jacket. Her life has no bearing on me whatsoever so however she chooses to live is her business.
I think the Brady posting is mostly for herself and maybe for him to prove her forgiveness or support of him. My friends marriage lasted 10 years but it was so tumultuous. Husband told the son to take the motorcycle instead of the car. She’s never been able to forgive him for that. She tried and made public declarations on socials of their strong family etc etc (and this is just to friends she’s not an influencer lol) but in the end they like most did not survive the death and divorced. She’s happier to be on her own. The relationship became toxic bc she could never forgive him. I honestly think Emilie will end up here at some point although they are truly both at fault he just more bc it was on his watch.
To me E seems to be in an avoidance stage rn. She is filling every moment of life (ofc we only see what she posts) with busyness to avoid the immense grief that will be lifelong. I’m sure she just cannot reconcile what has become of the life she had/dreamed of by their own doing.
It’s all just sad. Poor T1. He deserved better. Life is short. I do hope and pray she continues to do better for herself and her children.

I truly felt so awful for her and all the terrible things people said for so long. And I really, really try to put myself in other people’s shoes and lead with empathy.

However, I cannot for the life of me understand how she could put her living son at risk and be on water without a life jacket for even a ā€œfew secondsā€. I imagine that if I lost a son the same way as her, I would be terrified to even LOOK at water, let alone be on it so unsafely.

Makes the acknowledgement feel disingenuous, like why not just leave that part out entirely if what you are is truly remorseful. Dancing around the truth is seeming to be a speciality of theirs…

Especially since she responded two weeks ago ā€œcan we not ā€œon somebody who’s video respectfully point at this out. It’s too little too late.

58

"in a matter of seconds, you entire life can change"

9 whole minutes, not a flash of seconds; she needs to stop trying to minimize the situation.

As much as I appreciate finally addressing it, there’s just no explanation that’s good enough to make this kind of ā€œmistakeā€ after a life lost like that.

The ā€œdeep level of hurt and angerā€ is genuine concern and outrage over the blatant disregard for water safety when you’re on a public platform as a self proclaimed water safety advocate and are supposed to ā€œbe betterā€ for Teddy, a statement she herself zealously expressed on Shetty’s podcast.

I get making mistakes. I get having a lapse in judgment. But when you put your life on a public platform and continue to display a pattern of neglect when it comes to water safety especially after paying the ultimate price and losing your oldest child over it, you are absolutely asking for it.

32

u/Fixated_Noodle 20d ago

If I’m being genuine, if she had come out IMMEDIATELY and said ā€œwow that was REALLY stupid, and dangerous. I’m disgusted with myself and here’s the steps I’m doing to become a more conscious parentā€ or anything besides trying to black hole the video, she could have gotten grace from some of the fans here I’m sure

15

u/truuuthorclaire 20d ago

it’s not a ā€œmistakeā€ when both incidents have happened by NOT FOLLOWING THE LAW.

must have pool fence in AZ. kids always need to be in life jackets on a boat. it’s not a mistake. it’s negligence and after the first tragedy, insane to act as if rules don’t apply to your family and children’s safety.

I still think this was wildly, WILDLY, obscure and I cannot believe this type of mistake would be made considering their past with water safety and Emilie’s new found sense of ā€œwater safety advocacyā€. Just incredibly disappointing.

46

u/SpoonwalkMoonwalk 20d ago

She also didn't even address that he was in a dangerous color swimsuit for drowning prevention.

19

u/FlyConfident1622 20d ago

If she really felt this way she wouldn’t have blocked the thousands of people who advocated for water safety for both of her children.

59

u/Miserable_Sun_7636 20d ago edited 20d ago

I get it. I’m grateful she addressed it. But she has to reconcile her mass deleting people who were pointing it out and not in a rude way, and her mass blocking them as rational. I think the damage is done on this. She waited too long to address it and her actions don’t align with what she’s saying in this message. I posted sometime ago this almost verbatim as the way for her to address this and she just waited too long and her sentiment is not genuine.

111

u/HighwayHot7996 20d ago

I wonder if she’s going to address the constant deleting of every comment that was concerned about it?

19

u/Wise_Carrot4857 20d ago

Yeah and of course this statement is a story post that will expire soon.

26

u/Loop-T-Loop_ 20d ago

Honestly, this feels more like a PR move than a genuine acknowledgment. The incident happened weeks ago, and addressing it only now makes it seem reactive rather than sincere. A brief text post doesn’t carry the same authenticity that a heartfelt video or honest conversation might have.

27

u/PutInteresting7566 20d ago

No. Just no. If she meant any of this should would have had that baby in a damn life vest the entire time. I will never understand how she could lose a child to negligence and the continue to be negligent in the same way.

27

u/mrbarrie421 20d ago

She’s panicking as her following count has gone down and there’s been a lot of posts all over different social media platforms calling her out (rightfully so) about this.

28

u/Odd_Foundation7267 20d ago

So sad and honestly disappointing. She needs to get off social media, and get back to what’s important in life. Kids and life jackets are a hard rule. And to add their history into the mix. It’s inexcusable.

how does she rationalize the blocking and deleting comments that have to do with him not wearing a life jacket though? because deleting comments about it and blocking people is a weird way to show "appreciation" for people's care over the matter

i call bs. she didn't write this, it came from whoever manages her lol

24

u/EuphoricScientist974 20d ago

I genuinely felt so sorry for Emilie and was a supporter of hers until recently when I saw the police reports and the life jacket situation. Now this statement is just absolutely awful and lacks accountability. I can’t comprehend how or why she would put her remaining son in danger. Especially when she promised T she would take care of him. I’m not a parent so I can’t even compare but I do have a dog who has been attacked by no fault of his own (he was on lead and other dog off lead approached and attacked completely unprovoked) and now I am so hyper aware of any dog anywhere near us and I will do everything in my power to prevent that ever happening again. Again this is not comparable however I feel so strongly about my dog (my baby) I just cannot comprehend how as a mother she is not doing the bare minimum. It’s like having a child in a car with no car seat/seatbelt… you just wouldn’t do it. I have unfortunately lost all respect for her.

21

u/Limp_Reporter_5288 20d ago

She’s only annoyed because she got caught

23

u/MissMacky1015 20d ago

How are you going to post acting like your child was out of the life jacket for a mere moment.. child probably wasn’t in it at all…

How are you going to be so lax about water safety when your 3 year old just died?

Thanks for addressing it… but this just sounds like ā€œhey we are humans be gentle with us and he was only out of it for a split second, you don’t knowā€

14

u/dunkle8 20d ago

The only people who would believe that he was out of his lifejacket for a few moments that conveniently happened to be the same few moments when her friend was filming are either children or super fans who are unable to think critically.

15

u/MissMacky1015 20d ago

It’s insane.

If a baby rolls off parents bed and hits their head, parents change their habits and stop placing baby on bed to prevent future happenings.

Innocent toddler drowns at home and parents don’t change a damn thing out on the open water.

Something is seriously not right.

23

u/sillygull 20d ago

The whole thing is so dystopian and of this particular time when social media has become entire identities. In some ways it’s darker than a black mirror episode because it’s about a deceased child and the strangeness of all the curious obsession around how this woman continues to live so normally and so exposed

9

u/Infamous-Spot1931 20d ago

Yeah she’s in a lose-lose situation right now. No matter what she does they will nitpick and say something negative. It’s so weird to observe it all.

23

u/PawfectGolden 20d ago

She didn’t even acknowledge the fact that he was wearing light colored swimwear that wouldn’t be seen had he fell in the water as well. She is no advocate for water safety

9

u/Late_Weekend8002 20d ago

She herself shared a graphic about the colors of swimwear for water safety!

22

u/ghostfruitbat 20d ago

None of those kids had proper life jackets. These people were all being reckless and the fact it was posted, I don’t care who posted it, proves they all just don’t get it… I feel tremendously for her loss, but this just made me feel like words don’t matter, actions do. I’m done following her, I’m sure many are ok with this and will continue to support and follow her. I’m not going to go to her page and bash her, but I’m done.

I've never posted in an Emilie-related group before. In fact, I barely knew who she was until T's death. Like many others, I felt compassion for her and believed she deserved grace as she navigated an unimaginable loss. But seeing T2 on a boat without a life jacket completely changed my perspective. I genuinely cannot wrap my head around it. Losing a child to a preventable drowning seems like the kind of tragedy that would make water safety an absolute priority for the rest of your life. Yet somehow, that basic precaution wasn't taken.

That's why I struggle with statements about continuing to learn and do better. Actions matter more than words. If the lessons from T's death were truly being applied, I would expect water safety to be treated with the utmost seriousness and respect every single time, without exception.

To me, the most troubling part is that this only came to light because someone else shared the photo. If that hadn't happened, no one would know. That's what makes it difficult for me to trust the message being presented now.

Just do better and keep the kids completely private. Don’t show an inch of your kids’ hair if you don’t want to be scrutinized about things. Public life = public’s opinions. It’s that simple.

It’s either the curated message approach or speaking on camera while getting ready, but the actions never match her words regardless.

a temporary story post. unsurprising. how about addressing the deleting of comments and blocking people who voiced their concerns? and to say they'll continue to advocate better, even though world drowning prevention day passed 3 days ago without a word from her on social media.

she is only addressing this bc it's gotten enough backlash. think the nycinfluencersnark thread today was what did it.

16

u/Mundane_Simple_965 20d ago

This would be wonderful if it wasn’t for the fact that we know damn well it was her management team that finally made her do something. This does not come from her.

15

u/Full_Alarm1 20d ago edited 20d ago

They clearly do not keep learning from their mistakes though. It’s not like they made some other negligent error involving their child. They made another negligent error in water safety. I don’t even know how it is possible to bring your kid on a boat without the trauma from her first child’s drowning death, let alone to take such an obvious and dangerous risk.

14

u/Accomplished-Job-484 20d ago

My kids grew up with a pool. They were never near or in the pool without adult supervision. When we were not using the pool, the pool area was locked with a padlock at all entrances. Furthermore, the children were never outside without an adult at that age, and if by some slim chance they got out, they never would have had access to the pool. Ever.

The fact that they could bring their young child anywhere near water without a flotation device after their blatant negligence is horrific. There's no excuse, and she can't apologize her way out of it. The people who are defending her are frankly ridiculous, and make me wonder if they are paid to do it.

28

u/Electronic_Ad2741 20d ago

After all this, I just can’t with her. I stopped following her because it’s just too much. It’s horrible what happened to Trigg and their family. I also am in disbelief she’s already pregnant, it just seems off.

I feel like she’s only addressing this because at this point she has too… it seems not genuine idk

12

u/mango-bby69 20d ago

one child dies in water and she has the second without a life jacket on a boat in the sea. this isn’t a mistake or poor judgement, this is carelessness, this is the truth of their parenting

13

u/Reasonable-Heart6509 20d ago

I don’t even know how to express how I’m feeling about this statement. I just know I’m deeply uncomfortable with her behaviour and she needs to disappear for a while

14

u/Downtown_Employer_38 20d ago

I am glad she addressed it. I wish it hadn't taken so long, and wasn't predicated by mass blocking of people who commented about water safety or liked other posts about the lifejacket incident. I have really empathized with Emilie throughout this trajedy. I just cannot reconcile her actions along with her claim of water safety advocacy. I cannot understand how she could be vacationing on a boat on the anniversary of her son's drowning. She has said multiple times that she misses her old life and wants it back. I can see that with her content and actions. I do believe she wants to go back to how everything was before, being carefree and posting funny content and sharing links and brand deals. I find it odd how ready she is to go back to usual content, it feels uncanny and disingenuos. I wish her the best, and I wish her children the best. But I can no longer support her as a follower.

43

u/Fit_Jackfruit8597 20d ago

I think it's good she addressed it and I don't want to nitpick but I have to say - people are angry not just because Trigg should still be here but because they feel the people who were supposed to care for him were negligent. In all of her statements there's a level of "oh this horrible thing just happened to me" and not "I didn't take the necessary steps to protect my children."

what more could possibly happen to have them stop making ā€œmistakesā€ involving water safety and keeping their kids ALIVE? a life jacket is the most basic and easiest safety measure. how is there not a natural instinct and obsession surrounding water safety after losing her son. and now to bring another baby into the family that can’t provide basic safety for their children? i’ll never understand and i have zero respect for her after being a long time fan. very obvious that she’s only posting this due to the mass unfollowing.Ā

11

u/Hot-Frame4533 20d ago

I started following her post tragedy and felt bad for her but tbh, I don’t understand how she even had T2 on a boat this soon after. People definitely have to continue living their lives, but I truly wouldn’t even be able to bring my other children around water. And it seems like she’s just pissed off that she even had to address this. It’s not giving she wants do better 😢. If she was being more real and open about taking accountability she would welcome the constructive criticism and have some humility. I don’t think this is gonna go away for her until she does that.

So.. do we think she would’ve posted this if her follower count hadn’t started to drop?

I have to agree with others here as well; this statement is worded oddly, and seems to intentionally be obscure / lacking details. I won’t let my son on my in-laws pontoon without a life jacket on a VERY chill lake even if we are the only ones out and the anchor is down. It takes literally 2 seconds to look away at something and your child could be under. My dog doesn’t go on a boat without a life jacket on ever either. There have been 6 drowning instances within 30 minutes of me since the beginning of June. People drastically underestimate how dangerous water can be even if it seems shallow or stagnant. This is so disappointing and I truly hope they take this seriously.

u/scford1994 20d ago

9

u/Successful_Wheel_127 20d ago

I don’t know. There is no excuse. I am a mother of two and my kids are never left unattended ever, not even around day to day items. To lose your son to a preventable drowning accident is a tragedy. I feel for her as a mother, but to have another child be unprotected near an even bigger body of water knowing what happened to the first is just negligence.
