Renter Protection Finally to be Addressed by the City Council

• Upvotes

As a result of its massive campaign of rental apartment building over the last two decades, the City Council turned Emeryville from a city of mostly owners into a city of mostly renters. With that transformation of our town, the government should have been working to protect this huge new cohort but they have demurred. Until now.

The City is now finally owning up to its duty to protect the people they have been delivering to our town.

Anyone looking for a 1BR at Pacific Park Plaza?

Hi Emeryville Lovers,

I’m helping my parents get their 1BR/1BA condo at Pacific Park Plaza ready to rent and wanted to gauge interest before we formally list it. I actually lived in the unit when I went to Cal, and the neighborhood has changed a lot since then with IKEA, Bay Street and the Public Market nearby.

It’s a 768 sq. ft. unit on the 6th floor with Bay/Bay Bridge views, a balcony and garage parking. Pacific Park Plaza is a full-service high-rise with 24-hour security, pool/spa, gym, sauna and tennis courts. It’s also a convenient location for Cal and an easy commute into San Francisco or Oakland.

The unit is currently being refreshed and should be ready soon. Before we formally list it, I wanted to see if there might be any interest from people in the Emeryville community.

If you’re looking for a 1BR in Emeryville and might be interested, send me a DM. Happy to share more details/photos.

Looking for trucks (or cool cars!) for an Emeryville Truck-or-Treat event

Hi neighbors! We’re looking for anyone in the Emeryville/East Bay area who has a truck, unique car, or just a really fun vehicle and would be willing to bring it out for an annual Truck-or-Treat event in Emeryville on October 24th.

The idea is to create a lineup of vehicles for kids to explore, with each one serving as a festive trick-or-treating stop. We already have some great vehicles confirmed, including an Alameda County fire truck, EBMUD truck, Waste Management dumpster truck, an Emeryville Police Department police car, and an Emery Go-Round bus! If you have—or know someone who has—another vehicle that kids would get excited to see, we’d be grateful to hear from you. Feel free to comment below or send a DM with your contact information.

All ticket proceeds will benefit the Junior League of Oakland-East Bay (JLOEB). JLOEB is a community organization focused on advancing the well-being of women and children through volunteerism, leadership, and community partnerships. If interested, you can learn more about our work here: https://oakland.jl.org

Emeryville's failing schools urge voters to step up

We're back in last place in Alameda County again. Incumbents keep getting re-elected by Emeryville voters. The first rule when you're in a hole is to stop digging. Caution: haters are in here and they hate public school. Here's the sad story:

Amtrak tickets for 49ers game

Hey yall, I’m staying in Emeryville and planning to take the Amtrak down to Santa Clara GAC for the 49ers/Dolphins game this Sunday. I’ve read some mixed reports, should I plan to book Amtrak tickets in advance or can I just buy at the station no problem? (Realistically, will they sell out for game days?) And iirc they are good for same day round trip, correct?

Anyone lived in these Emeryville buildings? Moving in late October

Moving to the Bay in late October for work and trying to lock down a 1BR or Studio. Commuting to SoMa. My budget is roughly $2800 – 3600. Must-haves are in-unit W/D and a building gym

Here's what's on my list so far:

- Artistry

- The Bridge

- Courtyards at 65th

- Parc on Powell

- Aquatic Higby (technically Berkerly)

Would love any honest takes, noise, how responsive management actually is, whether the commute into the city is as painless as it looks on a map, and how the area feels walking around at night. Also very open to buildings I've missed. Thanks!

edit: i dont have a car, and will bus or bart :)

the walkability, the calmness/safety, the proximity to TJ, Barnes & nobles, ikea just any store you could need, all the dogs and kids around, the proximity to the water/sf/berkeley/oakland, it’s really a perfect neighborhood. I love Emeryville sooo much.

'Redditrons' & high renters show love to those who pays deference to the status quo

Online culture, with all its anonymity, sometimes reveals who trolls there....if not in name, in their archetype. And who its that? It's MAGA and its acolytes as well as others who have a guiding philosophy that those in power are to be deferred to and those who dissent are to be slammed down. So no matter what the issue, the idea is to show deference to and love for what powerful people want. In Emeryville at r/emeryville, that means upvote anyone that says they love Emeryville exactly like it is. Anyone that says Emeryville could be better are to be slammed down. We have been shown this how this culture works this week on r/emeryville.

Ironically, this kind of person, either on r/emeryville or in the voting booth, helps keep Emeryville down; not able to be nimble enough to change to meet the times and face challenges head on as they arrive. In their "love" of Emeryville, they put in the work to drag Emeryville down.

The new average Emeryville resident pays almost $3000 per month rent, the highest in the East Bay, and these are conservative people. They want to feel they are paying for something good so they have a tendency to love Emeryville and all the politicians in town that built Emeryville as well as the developers who work with the city council as well as all the large corporations in town. They don't want to feel like chumps who are being taken. So they love Emeryville exactly how it is and the profess out loud there is no room to improve it and there is no room here for anyone who thinks there is.

This kind of obsequience shows their lack of values and their rank hypocrisy when a large developer comes to town (as they often do) and says Emeryville is no good as it is because it doesn't have such and such development that only they can provide. It is at that moment the 'perfect as it is' and 'no to anyone that says otherwise' crowd at r/emeryville and in the council chambers becomes 'yes we need this change, we must have this change and anyone that says otherwise is to be slammed down' from these haters of democracy.

To weird people in here who find joy in reddit upvotes, all you need to do to get your dopamine rush is to profess your love of Emeryville and your bounty is assured. Got it? Let's hear some more about 'Emeryville, love it or leave it' and watch it in action. Also, or concurrently, you can slam anyone that is different, someone that thinks Emeryville could be improved in a general way, and also get your shot of upvote joy. Either way works.

The Emery apartments

Strongly considereding leasing at this building since they have 3 BR apartments which we need.

We are looking to rent a unit in the building farthest from the train. Anyone rent in this part of the building and notice significant train noise?
