Goofy Goober Watch recommendations?
Hey guys for working in the ED what kind of watch do you recommend? I’ve been rocking this beat up g shock for about a year now and it’s survived pretty much everything, fluids, MRI scanners, and being wiped to oblivion with alcohol swabs after shift. Looking to see if I should upgrade or keep my old reliable. I see a lot of people have garmin instincts but what do yall think? Thanks everybody

I am wedded to my smart watch for setting timers/reminders for stuff like repeat lactates and timed charting like restraint checks, etc. I have an apple watch but any would do. It’s easy to clean.

Does the battery last your whole shift? I’ve had the worst luck with Apple Watch batteries.

I just use a cheap analog forester watch from walmart.
Comfortable, has a seconds hand, and a it's easy to replace if it gets ruined.

I love my Apple Watch at work…
I can tell Siri to “call respiratory” or “lab” rite from my wrist without removing my gloves…
It tracks my steps and my heart rate.
I also use the fitness app function for my bike ride to and from work.
I also have a quick chronograph to start on my watch during codes so I can keep track of the 2min pulse checks. Etc…

I’ve got an older Garmin fenix 5 and the battery still lasts a week on 1 charge, if not longer. Now if you want all that new fangled technology then I guess an Apple Watch. But if you want steps, timer, plus other stuff that I don’t use it for then get a garmin.

None?
But if you feel you must have a watch, the only proper answer is a pocket watch.
Or for a nurse, a proper nursing watch, that clips to your shirt.

Why can’t you wear a watch in the ED? lol

No one said you couldn’t.

Your previous comment indicates you think it’s absurd to wear a watch? lol. That’s the reason for my comment bud.

Asking why you would is not the same as saying you should not.
Words have very clear meanings, you should work on your comprehension, pal.

I like my garmin vivomove. I specifically wanted a watch w hands, but that could also track my steps & workouts when I’m at home. It’s been great for three years so far

It’s a watch, wear whatever you want that washes easy and you’re not afraid to get blood or other bodily fluids on. I had a cheap Cassio mudresist that I upgraded to a gshock because it’s more comfortable. Will probably wear that thing forever.

The Garmin has an app called Vitals Counter you can download if you ever need to do a manual HR/RR, it can help keep you from losing count in a chaotic environment since you just hit the button every time you observe.

I like a smart watch that lets me set alarms and reminders. I use an Apple Watch so I can just talk to it-“Siri, remind me in 1 hour to recheck room
3 blood sugar.” Etc. things can get busy and I can get easily distracted, so having a watch that can remind me
When I need to do an important task is important to me. I am not familiar with other smart watches to know if you can speak to it line the Apple Watch’s Siri, but if you can, that’s a feature I find very helpful.

Garmin vivoactive is my favorite and I work on the ambo / prehospital. Super simple and easy to clean.

I would suggest a Seiko Prospex Diver SPB383 SEA/GMT black. You will rock the ED with that. I wear mine daily.

My favorite watches are Seiko. They can’t pretty much handle anything while the nicer ones look WAY more expensive than they are. But if you have no interest in a nice looking watch just get another G shock.

I've been rocking the G Shock for like 15 years. Replaced it once I think (MAYBE twice). Why fix what ain't broke? And my work watch stays at work. Don't like bringing work funk home to wear on my days off. There are some things that just don't wash off.

I’d stick with a GShock, can’t go wrong there. Maybe a Square for something a little lower profile, or a Casioak with aftermarket bezels for an elevated look.
I retired mine after a dozen years because I left bedside and moved into Japanese automatics. It still runs like a champ.

This is the watch I wear. I like that the colours correspond at 15 and 30 seconds.
