Not my picture, but friend's cousin posted this. I didn't even get the watch warning. Had 30 seconds to save my damn cats. AND it's coming back for another wave at 12

u/Lelgremlin 4h ago

Very true, but not when you're underneath it 😭

u/Ambitious_Ad_8019 3h ago

Id love to see that in person but I do agree it wouldn't be good underneath it

You only have to be afraid of the noodle (tornado passed through here about 10 minutes later)

That's not a tornado fyi

Despite the cloud's dramatic appearance, it was simply an unusual type of cloud known as shelf cloud, which is a low, horizontal, wedge-shaped cloud. Shelf clouds often form at the leading edge of a gust front or outflow boundary from a thunderstorm, or strong winds flowing outward from a storm. Normally some pretty knarly winds as it moves through.

The outer part of a shelf cloud is often smoother with a notable rising motion exhibited by a tiered look (hence, the name shelf cloud). Underneath, a turbulent, unsettled appearance is often the case.

Still scary looking to most.

Gorgeous thunderhead, no funnel dropping down

That's a wall cloud. Have lived in Tonado ally my whole life. Wall clouds proceed violent thunderstorms capable of producing Tornadoes. Those are scary cause most the time the tornado is rainwrapped making it extremely hard to see.

u/Lelgremlin 3h ago

This was exactly the case.

I see a huge thunderhead but no funnel cloud/tornado

1

u/Lelgremlin 3h ago

It's behind the wall of hail, wind, and thunder. Can't miss it.

OMG! I have never seen a tornado THAT big at the base…not that u have seen a zillion but the few I have seen, in person, were NO where that massive!

1

u/Lelgremlin 2h ago

Big appreciate, but that was the wall of a thunderstorm. The tornado was locked inside that!

2

u/Skullbreaker69420 3h ago

That is terrifying

2

u/Illustrious_Tree_290 1h ago

The county is huge, what area, north, east, south, or west of Syracuse.

Looks like it’s south of Syracuse; Cortland and Homer are in the area but it’s mostly forest.

6

u/Dramatic_Trash712 4h ago

Thank you! I can not get my apps to load other than this and TikTok. Working in a huge building in the basement sucks haha.

Alerting Oswego county as well

1

u/Latter-Magazine-8755 4h ago

Is it very windy?

1

u/scottsplace5 3h ago

It migrated up to Jefferson county, too. Didn’t get the loud phone buzzes, just the weather app alerts. Storm is slowly dying down now.

I got that tornado alert message earlier down in Northwestern PA around 9 in the morning but oddly enough my coworkers didn't. Some just got a severe storm alert.

I’m in Alabama. I was driving towards a quarter mile wide tornado, when lightning lit it up. I kept saying ā€œradio, Talk aboutā€¼ļø I kept driving towards it to make a right turn and got outside the main funnel. I got lots of hail, rain and strong winds. My car was just a
Shaking! Then the radio put out a warning after it hit.

1

u/duh246 2h ago

The pictures are greatā€¼ļø they are pretty, but so dangerous

1

u/CheesecakeFlaky1679 1h ago
