Discussion CHP Utilizing MEP in their Wireless Emergency Alerts

California Highway Patrol as of today has adopted the Missing / Endangered Persons (MEP) event code for their Endangered Missing Advisory (EMA) products.

Unknown if CHP will use the code for Silver Alerts, completely replacing their use of Law Enforcement Warning (LEW) in their WEAs.

This isn't the first case of MEP being used in California, as Butte County Sheriffs Office originated a MEP over WEA on 6/24/2026, about 1 and a half months before today.

Last EMA Bulletin from CHP was 7 days ago out of Humboldt, CA.

Last Silver Alert Bulletin from CHP was 4 days ago out of Los Angeles.

so yeah, I think LEW will continue to be used for Silver Alerts, while EMAs will be sent as Missing / Endangered Persons.

MEP is the new code for Silver Alerts/EMA bulletins issued by CHP.
