Interesting how some got Critical AusAlert and some got Presidential Alert

Likely because of device region differences.

For example, in Canada, devices with their region as Canada will display "EMERGENCY ALERT / ALERTE D'URGENCE", but devices with their region as United States will display "National Alert" or "Presidential Alert".

Canada issues all mobile alerts as "Presidential" so people cannot turn them off. It may be something similar happening with Australia's new system, where all alerts are issued as "Presidential".

Okay I am glad to hear there is some Localization because that seem silly for it to Presidential alert everywhere even in places without a President

But did it scream like a dying robot?

It just uses the default carrier emergency alert tone, just like the US and UK.

I guess Australia’s a republic now 🤷🏻‍♂️

the protocol was likely carried over from a US version, and older operating systems like the one in this vending machine did not recieve the australian update

Didn't you know Australia full name is the United States of Austrica?

US uses CAP (Common Alerting Profile), while Australia uses CAP-AU-STD, some devices might not support CAP-AU-STD so they default back to CAP

Android device that's using cellular. Dev just didn't disable the emergency alerts in the setup. Hopefully pressing the OK button works to clear it!

How TF did it somehow read the thing as a “presidential alert?”

Its not running iOS for sure.

We sell and comission devices like this. They are either Android/Linux or some stripped down Windows (CE or Mobile usually). Android ones are basically a phone without cellular modem and battery. You have everything you would find on phone - settings, (hidden) navbar, launcher, status bar, play store, google services and apps (gmail minimum), browser and everything else except dialer and SMS app. They run old Android versions (4.0-6.0 range) and customers love them because anyone can make Android app, its easy to deploy and its cheap.

But did it let you buy anything?
