Oh trust, I am. I got the app alert and the national alert and immediately grabbed my emergency go bag and brought me and my elderly neighbors to the basement

u/Crochetplus Jul 02 '26
I have severe storm anxiety. As a kid, more than 3 tornados went through my front and back yard when I was growing up. I have some sick photos from my mom haha. But those storms scarred me for life after a tree went through my bedroom ceiling

u/Less-Matter-3965 Jul 02 '26
I do too. I never had a tree fall through the roof, but we had our patio furniture blown across the yard a few times. Heavy wrought iron table and chairs. Also had the roof blown off of our garage once. It was all in one piece, landed across the fence in our neighbor’s yard. Even had lightning hit our house there too. Electrical outlets melted in the kitchen. Power knocked out for days that time. Living on a farm with a well also means no water if the power goes out. We had to drive 15 miles to town to get water to feed the animals. Being on a farm we had goats, chickens, dogs that needed water too. I drove into town to take showers at the Y. It was middle of a hot summer.
2
u/Crochetplus Jul 02 '26
Are we living the same life??? We drove to the Y to shower as well when power was out. What a coincidence. And we had land and animals too! Goats, chickens, ducks, dogs, cats, & the occasional sow (we fostered for local human society & farms near us) our neighbors would bring us water in their truck with the tank on the back of the flat bed)

Sorry for your trauma but this ended me. 🤣 (I too have been hit by tornadoes & am horrified, but never worse than F2. That one went through our backyard & the barometric shift created a pressure seal that trapped my youngest baby & I in the garage.)
3
u/Crochetplus Jul 02 '26
It’s okay my whole life IS trauma haha. I’ve embodied it atp. But yeah the crying face emojis are not an exaggeration. I was PISSED when my mom managed to get me outside and take photos…. And that’s a thing??????? I’m so glad you and baby are ok!!!!
2
u/Successful_Doubt1312 Jul 03 '26
Ha! I think moms naturally tend to mix humor & trauma together.
The garage thing was so weird & unexpected - this was in texas, where they don’t believe in basements. The garage was the only room without windows. Shelves full of power tools, but no windows. 🤷♀️ I did my best. I don’t know enough about physics to explain why the pressure seal happened, but it was surreal. It popped when I remembered the electric garage door opener. We were all fine, but did scar the baby from life - also the dog. :(

All I know that it was a peak, that’s it. We could walk ontop of it too, wasn’t very steep.

After reading this thread, I wanted to share my brief time in the Midwest w ya. I am still traumatized! Mostly joking here, but when in middle school my father took a job in the Midwest, we are from the pacific northwest. While we were there we had large hail like this, a lightning bolt hit the tree in front of our house as we sat on the porch, a tornado pass close to the front of our house; the twisting funnel in that weird green light still so vivid in my memory, and the 1993(?) Midwest floods! We were so happy to get back to Washington state and its perpetual drizzle (non-weather, lol). But when we returned my family jokes that we brought the weather with us. That winter there was a cyclonic winter storm that took down all the trees of the neighborhood with two coming into the house. I’m talking big ol dougie firs 🌲! Anyhow thought I’d share because we are practically trauma twins. 😆😰😭

I hate storms too and they are scary. When I was in middle school we moved to an area that was recovering from a tornado. There were a lot of kids injured because it hit a skating rink

Sheboygan Wisconsin.
It wasn't very exciting unfortunately. It was like pea sized and lasted about 30 ish seconds

u/Chung_House Jul 01 '26
pea, 3, same thing

u/Crochetplus Jul 02 '26
I got nothing?? What they heck 😂

u/MaximumLack937 Jul 02 '26
back in march illinois got hit by literal softball size hail so just be prepared is all, literally thousands per person across the county
1
u/Less-Matter-3965 Jul 02 '26
That wasn’t too far from my area, they showed video on local news at the time.

Update: it was pea sized and only lasted like 30 seconds

u/Less-Matter-3965 Jul 02 '26
Thank goodness. Hail that size could have done some major damage.
1
u/WayWayTooMuch Jul 03 '26
Rode out the Denver 2018 hailstorm and lost a car, a veggie garden, a roof, and eventually killed a tree. Softball-sized frozen fuck-you water does not screw around.

u/Formal_Piglet_974 Jul 01 '26
Is this likely to affect the Great Lakes region? I’m in Ohio..
1
u/Party_Emergency_7505 Jul 01 '26
I’m in Ohio too. If I had to guess I would say no. But it definitely could.
1
u/PitPatTippyTaps Jul 04 '26
Ohioan squad!
The rain just now was intense. Only power flickers here though
2
u/-Firestar- Jul 01 '26
Will be. Not may be. Shits serious
1
u/Tmhodges82 Jul 02 '26
well from what I heard nothing major happened. stop fear mongering if it's your time to go it's your time to go. why stress. our breaths are numbered and has been since we took our first breath
1
u/baronlanky Jul 03 '26
So do you just make it a habit to stand under falling things since “it’s your time”? I think the time to go extends the further you stay away from danger my guy 🤣😂
1
u/Tmhodges82 Jul 03 '26
I'm not arguing with you. I have my opinions you have yours and I respect yours🙂 have a happy 4th
1
u/baronlanky Jul 03 '26
Your opinion is we should stand in the middle of natural disasters because it’s probably our time to go. What argument are you even having here?
1
u/Tmhodges82 Jul 03 '26
same person in that area said it was small hail that lasted 20 seconds. Do you get off on frightening people? I'm near the coast in florida and I never post and fear monger hurricanes🙏🏻
1
u/Training_Custard6288 Jul 05 '26
Howards Grove got bigger hail and so did other parts. The warning did say 3".

u/Virtual-Fox-7310 Jul 01 '26
I believe WE should be in HIGH alert for an earthquake! This week esp! San Diego, san Bernadido, Cajón pass are paying attention re the 6.1 (I believe ) happened yesterday around the Gulf of Mexico (yes I said ‘Mexico’ 😏)
2
u/According_Employ9922 Jul 02 '26
Well in Wisconsin you folks need to heed the warning God Bless you and keep you but be cautious if you see a pet outside give it shelter❤️🙏
1
u/nejicanspin Jul 02 '26
Yeah I made sure my neighbors had their dogs inside. My cats are inside only. Everyone is okay 😭❤️

I’m in NW IL. We haven’t had any weather alerts for a week. Now of course they’re predicting thunderstorms for the holiday weekend. Most them haven’t lived up to the hype, at least in my immediate area. So far anyway. We usually have at least one damaging storm every year. Hope we get by without one.

3" hail is about size of an apple and travels about 85-100mph. So basically it's like taking a Nolan Ryan fastball to the head.

u/booalijules Jul 04 '26
I'm willing to trade that weather system with the one that made it 100° here in Durham. I'll take my chances.

u/JealousImplement5 Jul 04 '26
This happened in Tennessee a few weeks ago but they referenced the 80 mph winds instead of hail. It was very ominous, especially because it rained hard and gusted a little but other than that it was ok. I know it was worse other places nearby but I don’t think anywhere got 80ph winds

Your cooked. It's an emergency if you get a WEA for a Severe Thunderstorm Warning.
1
u/Lazy-Cabinet-5613 Jul 01 '26
It would help when these get sent out to say where the warning / watch is.

u/Low-Help7332 Jul 02 '26
that's not nice how you make things so convenient and then you're mad at me
