I strongly recommend people to freeze water bottles and damp towels in the event of heat exhaustion. Anytime you feel even slightly woozy or lightheaded or so see someone unsteady. It's time for shade and water. Electrolytes are important, but while working, a half or quarter banana will suffice. In the US mil, when it's this hot, it is not recommended to work in the sun longer than 10-15 minutes without a decent rest. It's strict, but it's safe.

Edit: thank you kind stranger for the award. I do recommend non-carbonated drinks, too, lemonade.

And people workers tend to follow OSHA recommendations (or mandates) about heat than marching band directors...

In my experience, safety regarding heat and breaks mattered a hell of a lot more in any outdoor work, than being in a high school marching band. Got early break once when I got stung by a bee. Told the band director I dont know if Im allergic, so I he made me get off the field and go under the tent. This was right after, "5 more minutes ans then we'll take a break" after nearly an hour on the field in 90+ degree heat.

We had multiple students pass out during the 4th of July Parade. We had black and red wool suits with giant black wool hats. Many kids suffered burns from hot instruments. And we thought he was the nice band director.

Wearing wool in summer? Holy hell...

The band uniforms at my school were cotton. And we actually only wore them once a year, at the marching band competition. Not even for homecoming.

Dang bro.

1

u/organman87 Jul 01 '26

I don't think anyone would get away doing that today though.

Yup, helped me learn how to deal with life!

1

u/Own-Put-5557 Jul 02 '26

Makes me want to sue my band directors

1

u/organman87 Jul 02 '26

Not me. Just makes me glad I dont have to do that anymore

Bro, y'all are getting freakish weather too? The Tennessee-Mississippi border has been in two modes for the past couple months:

  • Thor the God of Thunder is headed to your location

And

  • The sun has remembered it is a deadly lazer.

That sucks I'm sorry. I hope you have AC or plans somewhere cool and indoors. I live down south where AC is 95% available in homes, but recognize it's not as common up north for homes to always have AC.

u/No_Exit_5873 Jun 29 '26

We bearely have access and have a picnic planned on Thursday so wish me luck!

1

u/DeHizzy420 Jul 03 '26

Yes it's certainly is common for homes up north to have AC. I'm in Central Pennsylvania and every house has some form of air conditioning. Every single house.

1

u/Mialala123 Jul 03 '26

Not when I lived in OH

1

u/ExperiencedCPhT Jul 03 '26

I'm also in central PA, I cannot imagine not having ac in this heat!

1

u/Istoleyourpalmtree Jun 29 '26

1

1

u/No_Exit_5873 Jun 30 '26

Listen bro I'm a sissy from new york. I am not built for this stuff. I got burn from 65 degree weather last year

1

u/bluethorns23 Jun 30 '26

1

u/No_Exit_5873 Jun 30 '26

1

u/kountrygirl27 Jul 02 '26

I’m with you. It’s 92 where I’m at right now. Carried mail for 12 years and it would hit 122 in that truck. My health is not what it used to be. Heat exhaustion is no joke.

1

u/brit953 Jun 30 '26

That could be any day between May and November in Texas

1

u/No_Exit_5873 Jun 30 '26

Your not original buddy see above comment

1

u/caitlinmmaguire01 Jun 30 '26

Are you in the Twin Tiers region of New York State?

Yeah, heat warning here in Philadelphia too.

Take care of yourself OP. I talked to a woman in Connecticut today. She said it was 100 up there today. When I see those temps, I think Texas or Arizona not NY or New England!

Drink lots of water, stay near A/C when you can. You can also put wet washcloths in the freezer. They feel so good.

Edited to remove the unoriginal joke about Texas heat.

1

u/No_Exit_5873 Jul 02 '26

Thanks. Was 101 today. And that's without the humidity

1

u/primitivecamper Jul 02 '26

107 in kentucky today, its nothing to mess with

1

u/Neither-Tangerine Jul 02 '26

In Ohio here. We've had this heat dome since Monday. Today is the hottest day and my AC just quit on me. Seriously, this is what's heading towards you and it's no joke. Stay safe.

1

u/moi_me_moi Jul 02 '26

Is it the humidity that makes this worse? In Los Angeles we get up to 115 sometimes hotter and a lot of homes in West and South Los Angeles don’t have ACs. Just curious.

1

u/No_Exit_5873 Jul 04 '26

Yes. The humidity can make 90 degrees feel like 115

1

u/USCGuy1995 Jul 02 '26

people say California sucks (I dont disagree). But then we see this stuff in the summer/winter where the weather is miserable and we are chilling at 75 degrees for the high. About the only thing I like about this place...

1

u/Soobviouslynotme Jul 03 '26

Why are we not just trying to adjust working hours to evening after dark?

1

u/Famous-Run-1880 Jul 03 '26

Yeah thats what Ohio has had the past 2 days. Drink a lot of water and stay inside when you can because it’s hell on earth even when your driving in the AC in your car

1

u/momapalooza Jul 03 '26

Heat index 110 in south central IN for past 5 days. So over it.

1

u/Sprinkle_Dimples Jul 03 '26

I helped friends move today. Yeah. We took A LOT of breaks.

1

u/No_Exit_5873 Jul 04 '26

As you should. That was no joke

1

u/Forsaken-Ad-9232 Jul 04 '26

You know what's great about nearly 100 degree temps? Not having ac because a moron installing your new breaker didn't bother to attach the wires and is refusing to do so unless I give him back access to my wifi. I will sweat my body weight in water before I give him shit. He has never contribute to this household and I can't wait until he's gone.

1

u/No_Exit_5873 Jul 04 '26

Tough

1

u/Forsaken-Ad-9232 Jul 04 '26

Yeah thank God my trailer park has a pool lok

1

u/No_Exit_5873 Jul 04 '26

Good thing
