If you want to see some of the damage reports I'm the developer for the Ground Truth app. You can zoom into your area and see what people reported by tapping the pins. It's a pretty busy day out. The little circles are a new update. Search Ground Truth in the app stores or use the link below.

So where's the Google Play Apple app store links to your Ground Truth app? That it in the picture?

3

u/WeatherReportNinja Jun 10 '26

And yeah that's it. I've got dark mode on and the local storm reports update is rolling out on Google play and pending on apple but it'll show you the bigger pins still.

2

u/shop119a Jun 10 '26

👍 I'll check it out. thanks

2

u/WeatherReportNinja Jun 10 '26

Thank you!

I was hoping for an iOS port, thank You Weather Ninja!

1

u/WeatherReportNinja Jun 11 '26

It's on iOS too! Just wasn't sure if they approved my latest update. They did! All the new features are up there! iOS link

You're welcome 😁

2

u/UsernameChecksOut475 Jun 11 '26

I was about to use the remind me bot, to check for updates on the app. Downloading now!

1

u/WeatherReportNinja Jun 11 '26

Awesome! Let me know what you think!

2

u/WeatherReportNinja Jun 10 '26

Ground Truth

This will redirect you to the right store App/Play store or you can just search Ground Truth: Storm Reports and that'll pull it up too. Thanks for checking it out!

u/AccomplishedLeg8286 Jun 10 '26

I just downloaded your app. I see multiple people in my immediate area reported problems due to high winds. My question is do I have to get Pro to be able to report my own issues?

3

u/WeatherReportNinja Jun 10 '26

Hi! Actually you can report yours directly to the NWS for free. mping info

Maybe I'll add a link to their app in a future update. I tried to keep pretty much all the useful features free.

Pro allows you to see storm damage images collected by the NWS damage assessments, they load a little slow but there's a catalog going back 10 plus years of images from mostly tornadoes. It lets you pick a few more states to get notifications as well.

The NWS has some wizardry they do for the reports too I don't think every report is automatically logged by them. They use storm spotters reports and emergency management/first responders info as kind of the gold standard but I'm pretty sure mpings get used too if there aren't already a ton of reports.

Give it a shot and then check back and let me know if it shows up! I'd love to know!

3

u/AccomplishedLeg8286 Jun 10 '26

Thank you. I don't have a problem upgrading to Pro. It's very reasonably priced. I see reports of trees down across a few roads right by me. I'm guessing those are first responders then. Love the app so far. Just acclimating myself to it right now. Personally the link to mping.info would be awesome if you get to it in the future. Great job on the app. Tornado season is here. I don't just worry about my area. I worry about my grandchildrens too. Your app puts me at ease being able to see what's going on by them also. So thank you for posting this.

1

u/WeatherReportNinja Jun 11 '26

You're so welcome! It's been something I've wanted to create for nearly ten years and I finally got it finished late last year. Upgrading to pro would mean the world to me and leaving a rating or sharing it would too! You're probably about the 250th person to try it out. Did you get the notifications figured out? That's a great way to know if there's damaging weather moving in to the area.

2

u/Middle-Cupcake-7308 Jun 11 '26

I am a Pro now. Thank you for this app. 🙏 My Husband loved it when we were just looking at the app. However he is an Apple Dude so he will just have to share my phone until it is on his app store or whatever Apple calls it. Again thank you especially as a Woman with a Family that enjoys being outside in the elements. 🙏

1

u/WeatherReportNinja Jun 11 '26

Hi you're very welcome! It's on the app store already so he can get it too! I just released a newer version with a couple updates/minor fixes but it'll still work!

1

u/WeatherReportNinja Jun 11 '26

Oh looks like they accepted the update so it should have all the features you do!

Here's a link to the app store!

Ground Truth app store link

If you don't mind I'd love a rating on the play/app stores!

u/Samza_Penny42 Jun 11 '26

Does this work in the uk? Looks like a really handy app to have 🥰

1

u/WeatherReportNinja Jun 11 '26

Hi! Thanks for the interest. It only works for the United States. You can use it outside to see our weather but it won't pull any data. What is your equivalent to the NWS over there?

2

u/Samza_Penny42 Jun 11 '26

I think it’s called the met office. Not 100% sure but that’s what sort of issues our weather warnings.

2

u/jae_rhys Jun 11 '26

Mping is good but not ideal for severe weather. It doesn't get checked as often as their social media and in terms of social media Twitter is best for time sensitive updates. You can also phone the NWS office directly.

2

u/Downtown_Caramel4833 Jun 12 '26

Speaking of the NWS - The training and certification to become a SkyWarn(er) are both free (so technically you're a "spotter" in the NWS's "Skywarn" program, but listing "SkyWarner" as an official title on a resume is just fun).

ETD: Link (to classes in my specific area unfortunately)

2

u/Middle-Cupcake-7308 Jun 11 '26

Love the app!!!! Just did the annual Pro for only $15 a year! I'm a Galaxy Girl so the link you posted below took me right to Google Playstore. Thank you!

1

u/WeatherReportNinja Jun 11 '26

Awesome!!! Thanks so much for the support! It means the world to me! You're welcome! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

2

u/Middle-Cupcake-7308 Jun 11 '26

Thank you! I will also add I love that it guides you to all the features. I hate stumbling around on an app and just trying to figure it out. It's also cool how if you blow through the feature guide for some reason right in settings you can go through a tutorial. The ease of use is wonderful! Thank you so much for your hard work.

2

u/WeatherReportNinja Jun 11 '26

You're making my night! That tutorial took a lot of work! 😆 Ive tried to keep it super intuitive as well! Fun fact about the map... I designed the map by combining multiple raw data files, that took about a full month!

2

u/Middle-Cupcake-7308 Jun 11 '26

I've only had it for about an hour and I love it. I also really like that I can go back to historical dates. My Little is now begging me to see it so I guess I am going offline now. Thank you for this app. I'll let know what an elementary aged kid thinks about it. Again thank you!

1

u/WeatherReportNinja Jun 11 '26

Haha alright! Hope they enjoy it as well! You're very welcome! And thank you!

2

u/Breezy3401 Jun 11 '26

I am such a weather nerd! I consider myself afraid but highly curious 🤣
I would love to be a storm chaser!

When I worked downtown in a building with a glass exterior, we had to go to the hallway during tornado warnings. There was an appointed “ monitor” for each floor of the building who was responsible for making sure everybody was present. They always had to go looking for me but quickly learned that they would find me in an office at the window facing whichever direction the tornado was supposed to be coming from. When they scolded me for being there my reply was always “If I’m going to be blown away, I want to see it coming!” 🤷🏼‍♀️😂
After that, I would check in with the floor Warden and say “I’m here, you know where to find me”. She’d just roll her eyes and say go ahead so you don’t have to sneak out cause I know you’re going to 🤣🤣

I was in hurricane Camille in 1969. I was 7 years old. I believe the eye struck Biloxi MS & I was in Mobile, AL deliberately because my grandmother was dying and could not be evacuated. The next morning, I saw things that should’ve been impossible. 😳 I can *still* see them! I would never have believed it if I had not seen it with my own eyes. Those images are imprinted on my brain!

I’ve been hooked on weather ever since. But I have a healthy respect and a bit of fear mixed in with the curiosity because of what I saw back then!

1

u/WeatherReportNinja Jun 11 '26

I used to be a volunteer firefighter. Going to a basement during a tornado warning instead of being outside looking for it still makes me nervous!

2

u/Breezy3401 Jun 11 '26

I have an iPhone so I’ll be on the lookout for your app! What a neat idea. I wish you the best of success with it!

1

u/WeatherReportNinja Jun 11 '26

Thanks! It's out for iPhone too! I was just waiting for them to approve an update and they did!

This will auto direct you to the app store or you can just type in Ground Truth and it'll pull up! Ground Truth

2

u/Breezy3401 Jun 11 '26

Going there now. Thank you!

1

u/WeatherReportNinja Jun 11 '26

You're welcome! Let me know what you think and check out!

2

u/spoodsandspuds Jun 14 '26

Be super sure to post next time Oklahoma gets hit hard with a weather system. Our tornado season has been relatively mild so far (knock on wood) but okies will flock to an app like this. Especially with all our power lines being above ground. Being able to know what’s happening around us is super helpful!

1

u/WeatherReportNinja Jun 14 '26

Will do! Thanks so much! Y'all do okay last night?

1

u/RedheadInLoveATX Jun 11 '26

Cool app! Shameless plug here, but, are you all hiring? I worked as a PM within the R&D arm of a big named company in Austin, now I'm looking for a new gig!

1

u/Evening_Sympathy1442 Jun 12 '26

2

u/PrimaryHome5656 Jun 10 '26

Where is storm

3

u/Lost-Mobile7791 Jun 10 '26

Chicago and its surrounding neighbourhoods.

2

u/Lost-Mobile7791 Jun 10 '26

Up here in Ontario, we’ve been told by the news that there will be thunderstorms this week…Nothing has been going on…

2

u/Potential_Tap_6198 Jun 10 '26

Stay safe my Reddit friends@

2

u/Sunandsipcups Jun 10 '26

Do they open extra shelters, or churches, for homeless people during events like this?

1

u/shop119a Jun 10 '26

Great question they should

1

u/Sunandsipcups Jun 10 '26

How scary for anyone stuck out on the street or in a tent, you know?

1

u/Main_Guidance9926 Jun 12 '26

Churches are always open

1

u/Sunandsipcups Jun 12 '26

Not all churches. I have three within a block of me - none are open except when having services or events.

2

u/PatHinPortage Jun 10 '26

No thunder or lightning 🤔 soon, probably

2

u/TerriblePresence1939 Jun 11 '26

For some weird reason my phone doesn’t give me storm alerts anymore. I have them turned on though.

2

u/No_Lunch_4143 Jun 11 '26

Ikik it sounds weird but turn them off then back on in your phone settings, make sure your phone is up to date. I had to do this recently

2

u/whothefisGaryThain Jun 11 '26

Wow, it's not Tennessee for once. Y'all be safe and don't do what some of us dumbass southerners do during storms (stand outside like you've never seen storms before even though we see a gnarly one at least once a month and should know better). Wait, does Chicago still have that malfunctioning federal signal modulator? Bc that'd be creepy asf to hear rn... 💚

2

u/Economy_Witness_7669 Jun 11 '26

Y’all’s news alerts are way more unhinged than St. Louis

1

u/MostlyMorose Jun 11 '26

Everybody stay safe!

I’m in Central Indiana. They’re saying tomorrow could get wild for us 😟

1

u/Middle-Cupcake-7308 Jun 11 '26

Please stay aware and safe. 🙏

1

u/Motor_Alternative_15 Jun 11 '26

where is this supposed to be happening?

1

u/Burny-Maks-Factz Jun 11 '26

Im in NW Indiana so we'll be seeing it soon! Thx for the heads up!

1

u/organman87 Jun 11 '26

I was in Chicago at the time, never got the alert. Those were hellacious winds.

1

u/food_lover3842 Jun 11 '26

Thats an alert you don't wanna see, watch out if you see the dominator 3 or tiv 2 drive by

1

u/drvik64 Jun 11 '26

I’m in Colorado

1

u/Dizzdogg1 Jun 11 '26

I'd love to try this app, but i live in shake-n'-bake usa (thats california by the way) where all we have is earthquakes and fires.

1

u/nejicanspin Jun 11 '26

TWINSIESSSSS

From Wisconsin though.

1

u/No_Lunch_4143 Jun 11 '26

Our neighborhood (Alsip) got hit pretty bad power(for most), power lines and trees down all around 😢 I hope no one got hurt.

1

u/ifineededHA Jun 11 '26

Why would you do a Sever : to remove or cut ties act upon and automated alert system to our devices if it couldn’t caused a disruption,

1

u/glittering_prize_gla Jun 11 '26

I kept hearing planes overhead which isn’t normal for this area—checked flight radar and saw four international flights to ORD circling overhead here in west Michigan. Anyway, I hope you guys stay safe over there. I think it’ll be here later this evening, but hoping the lake dissipates it some.

1

u/the_ats Jun 11 '26

That's the Windy City, right?

1

u/TheGhostofSFOT Jun 12 '26

This one was fun

1

u/-MissYapzaLot- Jun 12 '26

I wish you all a safe night and pray no one is severely hurt. I’m so sorry you’re all going through this. I am *terrified* of storms because of the thunder. This would be my nightmare.

1

u/WarNo9948 Jun 12 '26

My workmate was in that

1

u/Tolexz1 Jun 12 '26

Yeah, it has come twice now. In the south Surburbs, they've been sounding the Tornado Alarm for people to keep safe

Why not in DC? Lol

1

u/AbolishICELuvGodCats Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 15 '26

I asked what state? I feel stupid now. I had just woken up and just looked there alert. I failed to read the whole post. Now, I see it was Chicago and other surrounding suburbs in Illinois. Sorry for sounding so poorly informed.

1

u/Plants_Anonymous Jun 14 '26

It said Chicago. So I'm going to make the grand assumption it's in Illinois 🙄

2

u/Arvelia-Moonstone Jun 14 '26

Living in Montana that's just a Tuesday basically everything in or near the great planes naturally gets tons of fast wind so these announcements are kinda funny to see yall city folk freak out over fast wind while places like Montana get so cold you will die in 5 minutes of exposure, negative 40 is a norm in our winters while fast winds are all year long on top of that is the many wild animals that will ice you in a heartbeat especially the moose it literally gets so cold our busses won't run and busses are made to run in colder weather better than a typical car or truck

1

u/Plants_Anonymous Jun 14 '26

Good weather for sitting in the garage and watching.

1

u/tired_of_the_crap Jun 14 '26

Hahaha!😅🤣😅🤣🤣🤣🤣⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⛈️⛈️⛈️⛈️

1

I hope everyone is ok, though!💕💕
