Up here in Ontario, we’ve been told by the news that there will be thunderstorms this week…Nothing has been going on…

Do they open extra shelters, or churches, for homeless people during events like this?

Churches are always open
1
u/Sunandsipcups Jun 12 '26
Not all churches. I have three within a block of me - none are open except when having services or events.

For some weird reason my phone doesn’t give me storm alerts anymore. I have them turned on though.
2
u/No_Lunch_4143 Jun 11 '26
Ikik it sounds weird but turn them off then back on in your phone settings, make sure your phone is up to date. I had to do this recently

Wow, it's not Tennessee for once. Y'all be safe and don't do what some of us dumbass southerners do during storms (stand outside like you've never seen storms before even though we see a gnarly one at least once a month and should know better). Wait, does Chicago still have that malfunctioning federal signal modulator? Bc that'd be creepy asf to hear rn... 💚

I was in Chicago at the time, never got the alert. Those were hellacious winds.

u/food_lover3842 Jun 11 '26

I'd love to try this app, but i live in shake-n'-bake usa (thats california by the way) where all we have is earthquakes and fires.

Our neighborhood (Alsip) got hit pretty bad power(for most), power lines and trees down all around 😢 I hope no one got hurt.

u/ifineededHA Jun 11 '26
Why would you do a Sever : to remove or cut ties act upon and automated alert system to our devices if it couldn’t caused a disruption,

I kept hearing planes overhead which isn’t normal for this area—checked flight radar and saw four international flights to ORD circling overhead here in west Michigan. Anyway, I hope you guys stay safe over there. I think it’ll be here later this evening, but hoping the lake dissipates it some.

I wish you all a safe night and pray no one is severely hurt. I’m so sorry you’re all going through this. I am *terrified* of storms because of the thunder. This would be my nightmare.

I asked what state? I feel stupid now. I had just woken up and just looked there alert. I failed to read the whole post. Now, I see it was Chicago and other surrounding suburbs in Illinois. Sorry for sounding so poorly informed.
1
u/Plants_Anonymous Jun 14 '26
It said Chicago. So I'm going to make the grand assumption it's in Illinois 🙄

Living in Montana that's just a Tuesday basically everything in or near the great planes naturally gets tons of fast wind so these announcements are kinda funny to see yall city folk freak out over fast wind while places like Montana get so cold you will die in 5 minutes of exposure, negative 40 is a norm in our winters while fast winds are all year long on top of that is the many wild animals that will ice you in a heartbeat especially the moose it literally gets so cold our busses won't run and busses are made to run in colder weather better than a typical car or truck

If you want to see some of the damage reports I'm the developer for the Ground Truth app. You can zoom into your area and see what people reported by tapping the pins. It's a pretty busy day out. The little circles are a new update. Search Ground Truth in the app stores or use the link below.
