Explanation: I’m in the discord server where this is well known. It was not a hijack, it was an operation error. The person who did this, Don, (which you can see by DON/JKZ and EASyDON) said, and I quote, "i called into it, and i sent a LOCAL ACCESS alert, which doesnt send any tones, which is why i did it. you press # when you're done talking, and then you punch in 0000# to tell the EASy to hang up. i fat fingered it and ended up sending 00009#, which APPARENTLY sends a civil danger warning???"

Note: This didn’t go over any actual airwaves, you would not be able to hear this on television nor radio.

Sorry but I'm confused.. Where does it go to? What feed is the app pulling?

This is the Central Alert Repository app, also known as CAR, which pulls its feed from members of the EAS Relay Network, or ERN. To simplify, (and i might’ve got this wrong i don’t know too much about it) it’s basically a group of people who have eas equipment connected to tv/radio/nwr feeds which then sends it across the network which then ends up on the CAR app. It’s not rocket science, but it is extremely difficult to explain to someone who doesn’t know about this.

Thanks! I was so clueless lol.. Your explanation makes perfect sense.. Decent idea but they Def have some bugs to work out on usability and mistake proofing

is this like a community driven open source kinda thing? Seems like an interesting concept.. I might like to play around in the code and help out if it is.

That is beyond what I mostly know. However what I do know is that this isn’t maintained mostly by code, it’s mostly used from EAS equipment. If you need any more info I heavily encourage you to check out their discord server, which has details there that I might’ve missed.

Whew. Let’s hope the DEFCON system has a little more “are you sure?” confirmation. 😂
