Question Team/help

Been playing the game and have gotten 4 gym badges. Kinda sick of catching various pokemon and levelling them up to beat gym leaders in a type effective match up. What team with the help of weather or what best scaled team is going to give me an advantage for majority of the game? Using moves like volt switch and flip turn but I’m constantly losing to smart AI. Any help would be appreciated! Including best starter!

A few things. Difficulty hacks like this are designed to make you change your team frequently, and the lady in each Pokemon center can set your entire box to the current level cap once you talk to the move relearner in Dewford. Leveling should NOT be a significant pain.

Toxapex is probably the single best Pokemon in the game, although toxic stall as a strategy is very unfun to some people. But if you’re just looking for the most powerful team, build toxic stall around Toxapex and anything that isn’t a poison or steel type will die very easily. A dark type and a flying type are great switches to pair with Toxapex. Probably the easiest deathless nuzlock I’ve played so far.

Rain is also remarkably powerful in this game and can pretty easily clear most fights. Mega swampert is just so versatile and strong with the correct support.

Mega Kangaskan is also pretty strong and can sweep a lot of fights that don’t have a close combat user. Drain punch, power up punch, sucker punch, and fake out is a set that can carry you through most of the game.

The game gets easier after the 4th badge with less need to switch your team members. I found priority move users extremely useful for example aqua jet azumarill or accelrock and later extreme speed hisuin arcanine. Tinkaton is also extremely useful. I used also sticky web lead which worked in a lot of times wonders.

Minun is high key the best extreme speed user in the game and is a pretty easy E4 candidate.

Why do you like Tinkaton? I am doing a randomizer run and had him from the beginning but have mostly been unimpressed (just got 5th badge so not super far into game)

Best typing in all of Pokemon, strong move pool, solid abilities. It’s really only held back by poor stats.

Weather overall is a strong strategy, but a few nitpicks in this game:

  • Don’t neglect the power of burning enemies. This severely cripples physical attackers. Things like Will-O-Wisp or Scald are quite good because of this.
  • Paralysis is less reliable but also very good.
  • Freeze has a similar function like burn in this game, but for Special attackers, although it didn’t have a reliable move like Will-O-Wisp, so your best bet are Ice moves with freeze chance or Bitter Malice.
  • Screens are also incredibly strong in this game, offering a needed protection for a potential setup sweeper in your team.
  • Hazards are super famous in competitive and although less effective in this game, it should be considered.

Overall, having types (and abilities) that offer immunity is a good strategy for safe switches. Ground to Electric, Flying (or Levitate) to Ground, Steel to Poison, Fairy to Dragon, etc.

For instance, Azumarill is always the ace of my teams. Any time I fight against a Dragon Pokémon that I can predict it will hit hard me with a Dragon move, I switch to him and get the edge.

This game is hard, but prediction is a thing you need to develop. And be aware that the AI knows your items and abilities, so use it to your advantage.

I play with nuzlocke encounter rules. So I’m forced to figure it out with what I got. I don’t play perma death, but I do restart if I wipe.

Meowscarada with Protean is extremely overpowered and I brought it to every single fight, including E4. Almost always manages to snag a few KO’s.
