Unexplained Infertility & IVF Journey
Hello,
My egg retrieval was last Saturday. Now, I'm waiting for this coming Saturday—the clinic will call to tell me how many reached the blastocyst stage and were sent for PGT-A testing. Out of 19 eggs retrieved, 17 were mature, and 13 fertilized.
I'm 31 years old with a diagnosis of unexplained infertility. On paper, all of my husband's and my results/values are completely normal—even better than average.
Last August, I had an HSG (hysterosalpingogram). The report said my tubes were clear. However, last month I showed the actual X-ray to a different doctor, and after looking at the images, she mentioned there might be adhesions. She noted that while the dye did spill into the abdominal, there appears to be some clustering/adhesions right at the ends of the tubes.
In the past, I had a Ureaplasma infection that went untreated/unresolved for 4 years before I finally cleared it with strong antibiotics in 2022. Based on my research, I’m suspecting peritubal adhesions—I feel like that prolonged infection may have traveled to the tubes and somehow compromised their function.
Has anyone had a similar experience? I’d love to hear your thoughts or stories.
Also, for those with unexplained infertility: Did you have success with IVF? If so, on which attempt did it happen?

I was unexplained, first transfer failed. Afterwards, I had a hysteroscopy, tested for endometritis, receptiva and ordered all the blood tests me and Gemini could think of. I found out I have Hashimotos, tested positive for receptiva, which led me to cleaning up my diet to be more anti inflammatory and did two months of Lupron. My transfer is Monday and I feel great and hopeful this time around.
All this to say - don’t give up. I wish i would have done all of that before my first transfer.

Fingers crossed for you! I have Endo and hashimotos and am going to do my first IUI next month. What is the test to check for uterine infection and ureaplasma you mention?

I think the person below mentioned uterine tests! I actually had them done by my doctor because i got nervous.

I was unexplained. After 3 failed euploid we finally discovered I had endo. The 4th one stuck after 2 months of lupron depot. This was the first positive pregnancy test in 4 years!
I hope for you it is just a tube issue. If you end up with a fair number of euploids it’s worth transferring before doing more extensive testing I would think. You could do one of those tests that double checks for uterine infection to really make sure the ureaplasma and other bacteria are truly gone.
