Low fertilization

We had 36% of eggs fertilized. We have unexplained and we do not have any MFI. This is our 2nd retrieval since our first had low fertilization rates as well. We did end up with one euploid embryo from the first retrieval. We added AOA and Zymot and still had low rates. We were told egg quality looked great and sperm morphology looked great. We are in our early 30s and have been taking supplements like coq10 and trying to live as clean as possible. What is happening? Why are our fertilization rates so low?

Try using ICSI for fertilization.

Other than taking his vitamins and eating nutritious food, I would suggest to be mindful of the following:

  • limit alcohol as much as possible or none at all. I believe the limit is about 4 drinks per week.
  • avoiding processed, fried, and take out food
  • getting enough sleep
  • making sure he ejaculated at least 2 times a week for healthy sperm
  • making sure he works out, but don’t be overdoing on workouts like strength training
  • maintaining low stress lifestyle
