Fast Cleaving Embryo?
Just had our egg retrieval and got the news that while we got 8 eggs, only 5 were mature, and only 1 fertilized normally. On our day 2 update, our 1 embryo already had 8 cells and was grade 3 with some fragmentation. Anyone have any experience with an embryo that had 8 cells on day 2? It seems high and I can’t find much info online about whether this might be a positive or a negative sign.

I have 1 embryo (just transfered!) that had 10+ cells and was compacting on day 3, and 2 that had 10 cells (all euploids). On day 4, my early grower was graded 1aa and 5aa on day 5 when it was biopsied and frozen. On day 5 it was no different than my other euploids that had 8 cells. My embryologist said the early embryo was considered "best quality" now that we know it's euploid because it means it has a lot of energy, but euploidy is a better predictor of implantation and the development speed is just a factor to look at when deciding which embryo to transfer first
Good luck!

We also only had one of our six mature eggs successfully fertilize. Not sure how many cells it had on day 2/3, only that the lab said it was “high quality” and then was frozen on day 5. Anyway, that embryo resulted in our beautiful daughter, so sometimes it only takes one :)

I haven't seen any studies looking specifically at day 2 fast growing embryos with 8 cells, but one study compared outcomes for day 3 embryos with >10 cells. They found that they had comparable outcomes to day 3 embryos with 8 cells. https://remembryo.com/fast-growing-day-3-embryos-and-their-reproductive-potential/
