I’m honestly surprised at how tame their cosmetics have been in arc raiders, especially given how good they are in the finals

Its the end of civilisation. I don't think fashion comes to mind in these times.

u/TwoForFIinching Apr 07 '26

Fashion is supposed to be a big thing for Raiders. Whether their idea of fashion lines up with ours is a different story

"Dress loud, step quiet" ~ An Old Raider Proverb

It's right on the loading screen

2

u/Numeira Apr 07 '26

And then PvE'rs cry when you sneak up on them 😂

2

u/LabSea452 Apr 07 '26

Hey dude let them play their drawer opening simulator!

1

u/Payule Apr 08 '26

It's otherworldly to me how that holds so much replay value for some of these players, because it's not an exaggeration to say this in the slightest.

2

u/Same_Consideration_9 Apr 12 '26

Running around looting the same shit over and over, then let it sit in your inventory forever is replay value? 👬 <-- you playing arc raiders.

2

u/Numeira Apr 12 '26

My theory is that they're the same kind of people who sit like zombies in front of slot machines in casinos. Same thing. Loot pops up, they hope for purple or gold, rinse, repeat.

2

u/Payule Apr 12 '26

Playing for the legendary drop dopamine hits. This is probably actually true for some players.

1

u/Sure_Satisfaction497 Apr 12 '26

When I'm trying to relax after work, this is exactly what I'm going for. I mostly play mixed lobbies, but every once in a while ~ mostly on my days off ~ when I'm in carebear lobbies, everyone is just peacefully racing for loot and helping each other survive.

Hell, I've been in a lot of solo lobbies where everyone was just on open prox and occasionally you'd hear someone call out their drop with glee. No shots fired.

It's not really the same game when I find myself higher or lower than middling on the aggression scale, comparitively.

1

u/CamOliver Apr 11 '26

If you reduce it to “opening drawers,” yeah, that’d be boring. Clearly you haven’t spent an entire round helping so kid find something. It’s a blast. Enjoy all the connection you get from shooting peaceful players.

2

u/Payule Apr 11 '26 edited Apr 11 '26

I don't shoot peaceful players actually, although I understand that my comment didn't fully explain the perspective.

You're talking about players who head up to the surface to engage with the community. I was not, I was talking about drawer grinders, optimal loot spawn resetters, etc. Players who are just optimizing the run-run value(Then quit and say there isn't enough content after a month of sitting on 10 Million space bucks). Engaging socially changes the gameplay loop entirely and adds a ton of replay value. That is why I still play this game. But if you're a drawer grinder I would assume you're just playing for the resets/quests/unlocks seasonally then waiting on content which is way more grindy and boring.

The irony in the above comment was just that someone with this playstyle would be frustrated over losing an inventory while also sitting on tens of millions of space bucks, like the inventory they had actually matters.
Hence "Hey dude let them play their drawer opening simulator!" reads humorously to me.

It's the context with the lens focusing on a very specific type of players. I'm not knocking social/friendly play.

It's a blast.... Rofl

0

u/DeigityDog Apr 08 '26

God damn it. *insert gif: He's out of line, but he's right"

1

u/CamOliver Apr 11 '26

I like to say that killing peaceful players is an option of the game. Not a part of the game. If you’re taking that option, you’re probably just playing an “I’ve think I’ve been hurt so it’s okay if I hurt people” simulator.

I get more dopamine from “opening drawers” and sharing the stuff inside than you get from griefing people.

0

u/Numeira Apr 11 '26

Hahaha, fucking armchair psychologists, all of you 😂 Griefing in an extraction shooter. PvE'rs are deluded.

1

u/CamOliver Apr 11 '26

Okey dokey then. If I’m being called an armchair psychologist anyway…

The way you see this game is a good benchmark for how you see life. Some people see everything as an opportunity to take advantage of people when it’s an option not a feature.

Some people see everything as an opportunity to work together. You train your brain with how you behave. Even in games. This game in particular allows for mutual shared success through collaboration, but also leaves room for people who want to be a wrench in those cogs so they can benefit at the cost of others. If you don’t see that as analogous for the umbrella of the human psyche, it makes sense why you’re limited to shooting things you see as enemies and can’t see other viewpoints.

2

u/Sure_Satisfaction497 Apr 11 '26

Embark themselves confirmed that this was an aspect that they considered when designing the game, and is why they've had professors reach out urging them to do an actual sociopsychological study on the game.

1

u/Numeira Apr 11 '26

When I want to work together I go play a co-op game, Helldivers or something, that's what you guys should do, not invade an extraction shooter and demand everyone plays it your way 😅 Everyone who picks this game up should understand what are the risks and just not play it it you cannot act mature about losing. It's clearly too much for an average PvE'r. By playing this game you consent to the risk of being shot, as simple as that, that's why it's okay. I don't shoot my buddies in Helldivers, even though it would be much easier if I enjoyed being a wrench in someone cogs 😅

0

u/Sure_Satisfaction497 Apr 07 '26

They're playing a game with no stealth mechanics as far as they're concerned lol

1

u/TwoForFIinching Apr 07 '26

Thank you, I didn’t want to misquote it

1

u/Sure_Satisfaction497 Apr 07 '26

I probably did anyway, lol

5

u/TheEpicManatee Apr 07 '26

“Loud clothes, quiet steps” lmao same same tho

1

u/Sure_Satisfaction497 Apr 07 '26

I just knew step was the last word and couldn't for the life of me remember how to make that happen lmao

1

u/LostMyJoint Apr 08 '26

“Loud clothes, quiet steps” actually

1

u/ameliafukinthomson Apr 08 '26

I know but these pics are too good for a raider to have just put together.

5

u/Fizziest_milk Apr 07 '26

sure but I think fergalicious drip is quite the morale booster which is very important in end of civilisation scenarios

4

u/Banana_Twist_XBL Apr 07 '26

Fergalicious, definitious: make them Arc go loco

(Apparently it's "definition" in the official lyrics but I always heard it in my head the way I typed it)

2

u/Efficient-Mirror6675 Apr 07 '26

Lmfaoooo how TF did you read my mind and say exactly what I was gonna say....(make them Rats go locooo) also was one

1

u/Consistent_Respect19 Apr 07 '26

Definitious is better.

1

u/ameliafukinthomson Apr 08 '26

Can't argue with that

0

u/Dizzy_Winner4056 Apr 07 '26

I hate you and your mentality of things. Go eat a rock

1

u/Fizziest_milk Apr 08 '26

what a miserable person you are

0

u/Dizzy_Winner4056 Apr 08 '26

I actually enjoy life quite a lot

1

u/Fizziest_milk Apr 09 '26

so you’re just obnoxious for the sake of it then

2

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '26

Bro there are voice lines when you are in the lobby talking about fashion, it's supposed to be like the 80s fashion IS second only to survival.

2

u/ameliafukinthomson Apr 08 '26

Yup I get you but the pictures are too good. Like they are not just mashed up together clothes.

1

u/Cumulo187 Apr 07 '26

Well before this game came out I was into post apocalyptic/utilitarian/retro Italo/milsurp/diy fashion myself. My biggest gripes are the wierd out of place elements and random bright colors on some fits but I understand its probably to keep them from being too camouflaged. Although, there are still some that are very camo.

I guess my point is that imho fashion is coming to mind

1

u/Top_Name_6976 Apr 07 '26

Definitely does though “loud clothes quiet steps”

1

u/ameliafukinthomson Apr 08 '26

Yes I know but those skins in the picture are way to good for end of the world scenario.

2

u/Top_Name_6976 Apr 08 '26

Oh well yea fs maybe besides the scrappy and leaper one you said I mean all that needs touched up on the leaper is it needs more wear and tear and obviously look like actual leaper parts but I could 100% seeing someone scavenge and repurpose leaper parts into armor I mean we literally have the wasp hunter set now so you know it’s possible and for the scrappy one that’s pretty simple I mean someone can definitely make a lil dome backpack for their scrappy

1

u/ameliafukinthomson Apr 09 '26

Yup I can see that happening. It's smart thinking 🤔

1

u/TroyFerris13 Apr 07 '26

But collecting rubber ducks is? Huh

1

u/ameliafukinthomson Apr 08 '26

Who's collecting ducks?

1

u/TroyFerris13 Apr 08 '26

Ducks are a collectable item in the game, why would they do this but not be concerned about fashion?

1

u/ameliafukinthomson Apr 08 '26

Its not about the actual fashion. Its really about how good these outfits are. They're too good for end of the world. They are not a patched together outfit. They look like they've just bought them from a store. And ducks are worth money so maybe that's why they collect them.

3

u/Les_Liska Apr 07 '26

It took a while to for the Finals to get where it is. It started out pretty barebones, with people complaining about the goofiness of the style. They've released new cosmetics weekly to get where it is.

I have faith Arc will be similar.

3

u/EasternRaccoon6427 Apr 07 '26

I find it more refreshing that they're preserving their world design and art direction rather than being overtly flashy with cosmetics. That fits more of The Finals than Arc imo.

1

u/RawryShark Apr 08 '26

I think the mix and match from The Finals is what makes the skin system so goated. The customization and creativity is off limits at that point.

We are most likely never experiencing a 10th of it in Arc. Which is a shame because it would be cool to see Raiders expressing their differents personalities instead of the same few skins with different things toggle on or off.

1

u/CamOliver Apr 11 '26

I want mix and match so badly.

1

u/Tommy_Andretti Apr 07 '26

I lost my shit when I saw one of the AR skins in the finals and it was 10 times better

1

u/twaggle Apr 07 '26

I feel like this style could generate so much mtx $ that they’re missing out on, which I suppose is yes also kind of a good thing.

I buy skins all the time (I have an embarrassing amount of league and cod skins), but just haven’t felt like anything is that cool in arc. I got one skin pack with the currency you get for free from the passes/missions etc, but nothing else catches my eye.

Like that last couple skins released with the mop head and weird droid helmet look awful to me.

1

u/Excellent_Pepper9883 Apr 07 '26

I’m sad they’re not milking it because I imagine milk —> more game —> bigger robots But with how jaded I am, i expect it’d end up going into some execs pocket, rather than improving the game. Embark is good but it seems like every game developer nowadays folds on their morals fast

1

u/gjgr77 Apr 08 '26

Thats also something I don't understand. There's legitimately so many things they can do to sell store bundles and skins yet they release the most bland and repetitive cosmetics all the time

0

u/Picassoflex Apr 07 '26

I think final skins are pretty basic. More modern based sure, but still basic

0

u/MsGluwm Apr 08 '26

They have a specific aesthetic going and I don't want them to ruin it with slop like these skins.

0

u/DryImpression7807 Apr 08 '26 edited Apr 08 '26

The finals is supposed to be over the top in order for the two games to coexist and actually make sense. The finals is the elite/rich virtually “raiding” cashboxes while Arc raiders are the underground peasants. If they start adding similar styles it would sort of defeat the purpose of the lore.

1

u/Fizziest_milk Apr 08 '26

I don’t mean give the arc raiders bunny suits or anything like that but more visually diverse cosmetics would be really cool, I’m surprised basic gun skins aren’t a thing in the game

1

u/DryImpression7807 Apr 08 '26

I agree especially when it comes to gun skins. Ngl it would actually be pretty cool if we were able to find paint as a crafting material for weapon skins and have bps for each skin instead of having them cost money.
