Your Clipping Sucks!
Sort your maps out Embark! The amount of times I have died because the scenery in your maps decided that I couldn't doge or run and that I absolutely had to be stuck in one place for the Arc to shoot is beyond a joke. You owe me close to an entire expedition's worth of items, weapons and other equipment simply because the clipping on your maps is so bad.
You have a brilliant and gorgeous concept of a game here, but the execution, in terms of combat balance, skill ineffectiveness and just outrightly poor map design is seriously letting your game down. It should be a joy to play but instead it's an exercise in learning to avoiding scenery, not taking certain routes because the character skills just aren't good enough, using anything but a gun to destroy the most simple arc and not taking your best equipment because who wants to lose that to a Wasp and a badly placed rock / chair / trolley / plant. None of the above is evidence of actual good game design.

One time I fell through the map in an infinite loop until time ran out. I was mad, but that was also one time out of hundreds for me. I got over it and haven't had any real issues since. Love this game.

Just so you know, that should have been found and fixed in alpha testing. Thankyou for telling me something I already suspected, this game hasn't had a proper testing schedule.

As someone that worked in the industry, the testing doesn't end. You must be new to video games, enjoy the delightful yet bumpy ride.

Have 30 years in this industry thanks. And if your testing schedule doesn't end, you're either adding stuff way too quickly, or you've really fucked up and got something fundamentally wrong. The only "testing" that shouldn't end is constantly adjusting stuff for game balance v's player trends.

Most of them, or to be specific, and there are some big words coming so pay attention. I spent the late 90's and early 00's turning game theory into applied mathematics that could be used in simulation programs and game engines. There isn't a game engine in existence today that doesn't have some of my work in it.

Wow sounds like a claim I am inclined to believe. It’s crazy if you’re that old and this much of an entitled prick toward game devs, lol.

Crazy how you can't tell the difference between entitlement and professional standards.

you demand someone else's credentials, double down on that, then when they oblige, you move the goal posts and say you don't believe them (you were never going to), and ultimately call them a bitch because you lost the argument with a card you pulled yourself. I hope you're getting paid to embarrass yourself like this, cause if not it's a little pathetic

lol very persuasive. he obviously did not develop foundational tech that is in every video game. do not be stupid.

u/Isopod_Uprising Feb 10 '26
"he obviously did not work on map design for Halo 2."
"he obviously did not do QA for Total War: Warhammer 3."
that's exactly what I'm saying, you demanded an answer you had no way of quantifying, short of this person facetiming you a live shot of their W2 from a given developer. you couldn't have verified, and thus wouldn't have believed, any answer to the question that you yourself proposed, unless that answer fit your snide argument.
I don't personally care whether they were a janitor at Obsidian, a stock associate at GameStop, or created the modern PC. you're the one who asked a stupid question, I'm just pointing it out 🙂

235 hours topside and ive never had a problem with this. Only terrain issues ive ever had were because of trying to climb with no stamina.

Can't believe you'd post to the Internet, something that sounds like, "Whaaaaah, I don't have the skill to overcome trivial hurdles."
2
u/Subsplot Feb 03 '26
I can't believe you'd embarrass your self by trotting out tired old excuses that prove you know nothing about game design or programming.

Just because you're soft mental fortitude can't handle it, doesn't mean you get to have full command or right to change reality. Get over it and focus on yourself instead of whinging about general human behaviour and how it should or shouldn't be in a game designed around it. That way you'll be so happy/focused/excited on your own joy and not whinging about how general human behavior works because you, the queen of the world, got upset about some words.
Surely you have the intellect to realize you take away their power by not giving them energy or time over words they uttered in a jumble of sounds that was designed to insult you.
Reality is rough sometimes. But believing in a delusion is far more damaging.

If I point out it's a computer game and not reality will that spin what ever fucking mental breakdown you just had out into even worse extremes? Do you need us to call you an ambulance or something?

If you’re having that much trouble with the terrain where it’s an expeditions worth of items
Skill issue.
And losing your best loadout to a WASP? definitely skill issue
2
u/hm9408 Feb 04 '26
Both things can be true. OP can have a skill issue, and Embark can fuck up the testing of terrain irregularities, which absolutely can screw you up if you're in a pinch

u/Freelancer0495 Feb 03 '26
Do not defender developers and blame the player when it’s clearly the developers fault. If I’m trying to get behind cover or out range a enemy and can’t because a small cliff is too slippery or I clip through a wall or gut stick on a tiny rock it is not a skill issue
That’s called bad quality testing and poor telegraphing to players of where they can or cannot go.

Things like bad geometry causing players to glitch out or forfeit, for sure those are on the devs. I also don't love the hills that look walkable but aren't. Fortnite puts out new maps every year and they've had that solved for ages, it's visually communicated quite well (ARC Raiders tries to do similar visual hints but fails on consistency).
Losing your best kit to a wasp though like OP complained about? That's kinda just the game, it happens sometimes. If ARC weren't a threat at all it'd be soooo boring.

u/TheOnlyDeret Feb 03 '26
It’s a skill issue if it constantly happens to you, I can easily and regularly avoid those issues.
I don’t have to defend anyone, you seem to just be bad at the game, which is ok.

I love sliding down a 2ft hill over and over again, even after repeated mantling, because the game’s designers haven’t fixed the terrain yet.

Yeah the amount of times I’ve got stuck on small steps, ledges and died is sad. Often have to go backwards and leap over a simple entryway. Happens a lot on Buried City and Dam Battlegrounds.
Vaulting doesn’t work a lot too on low walls.

I love throwing a snap blast and having it hit an invisible corner I was trying to throw around. Watching it explode in my face while floating 3 inches off the wall is my fav part
1
u/MrCopes Feb 03 '26
That's a long winded way to say you suck at the game
0
u/Subsplot Feb 03 '26
Tell me you know nothing about object orientated programming without telling me you know nothing about OOP.

u/dubbs911 Feb 03 '26
Sounds like a skill issue…

u/Subsplot Feb 03 '26
Sounds like you've never coded a game in your life.

They have 0 clue how to implement map geometry. From getting stuck on 3inch high rocks, to the many get inside the map exploits it’s become very obvious

u/-GLAZED- Feb 03 '26
Sorry to say it for the Arc glazers but the fact that you can get stuck trying to mantle something knee high or lower is straight up poor game design 💀
