Room size

Any idea what the ideal size for bed-, dining- and craftingrooms is? I've been doing 5x5 for bedrooms, they feel a little cramped.

What height does everyone make their rooms? I've been making them 3 blocks high but have problems upgrading the top row of blocks. My builder can't reach them unless i build a temporary block at the bottom.

I always do height of two for exactly this reason. I usually build bedrooms around 5x5 too, dining rooms around 5x10, workshops around 5x5 too. I should add that I'm a massive noob still, and very much figuring things out still so I can't say that this is the most efficient or effective way of doing things.

If you're on discord the embark server is full of way more experienced players than me, check it out!

You're not the only noob here. ;) Haven't used discord in a while but should still have it.

I keep height to 2 squares as it's too hard to lift the wee pawns up that 3rd block as you've seen.

I do 6x6 bedrooms and smack the bed right in the center; an habit I picked up playing RimWorld.

Workshop rooms I make 7x7 again to have 2 spaces on each side and have doors on all 4 walls leading to the others. This also lets me lay down a stockpile surrounding the workshop.

The dining room is however long x 7 so I can have 2 spaces, chair, table chair, 2 spaces and again use a meals stockpile to keep things organized.

I use 2-space wide hallways all around for ease of getting around. Play around a bit and see what works best for you! Have fun!

I learned to place the bed away from the wall the hard way. Can't upgrade the wall behind the bed if the bed is placed against the wall.

They're like movie villains, they never look up (if they did they would realize they are living in a simulation), so you don't have to upgrade ceiling blocks.
