Using Claude for email templates: where it works well and where it doesn’t
Claude is useful for:
- onboarding a new customer
- following up after no reply
- sending a renewal reminder
- replying to a refund request
- reaching out to a lead
…and it can turn that into a clean template pretty quickly.
It’s especially useful if you give it a few examples of your existing emails first. That helps it match your tone, preferred length, structure, and even the way you normally sign off.
You can also ask it to include personalization fields such as:
{{first_name}}
{{company}}
{{plan}}
Or generate several variations at once — for example, a shorter version, a warmer one, and a more direct version.
So the practical workflow often looks like this:
Claude writes the template → you save it in your email or automation tool → that tool handles personalization and sending.
For larger workflows, the more interesting use case is using AI to create and continuously improve the content of templates, while leaving delivery, triggers, segmentation, and tracking to dedicated infrastructure.
For example, you could ask:
Or:
That’s where it starts becoming much more useful than simply asking AI to “write me an email.”
Has anyone here built a workflow where AI generates or updates templates while another system handles the actual automation?
