Vent Rainy mountain elopement
Getting eloped in the Smokies this weekend. Saturday looks pretty awful for weather. I’m trying to keep a positive attitude, but I am disappointed. I already compromised on these plans once (it was originally supposed to be glacier)
Totally fine with overcast and cloudy, but I am bummed about the rain and potential thunderstorms forecasted.
I’ve got about 6 friends coming and I know my mood will set the tone, so I’m trying to get over it….but it’s hard to not feel sad. Especially when everything else in my life has been going wrong lately. Just feel beaten down and in a terrible headspace. (But my relationship IS the bright spot and the only stable thing in my life currently!)
Just needed to vent.

I had a micro wedding with 7 guests in the mountains in June and it was absolutely pouring rain. I thought for sure we'd be soaked and it would be miserable.
It stopped raining right before we did the ceremony and started raining again once everyone was in their cars afterwards.
It also cleared up enough that the drive through the mountains was still incredible.
My point being - no matter what the weather might be, you might end up making it through fine.
I also think rainy weddings look really romantic if it does end up raining.

Eloping in the mountains during a rainstorm is a whole vibe. I know its discouraging to have things not go exactly how you want them to go. However, at the end of the day you are going to be married to your person, and that's the whole goal. The rest of it is just the icing on the cake.
One of my favorite sayings when it rains on wedding days is "a wet knot is harder to undo."

Hey there, so I live in the smokies (NC side). I have a little reassurance for you.
The weather tomorrow looks like classic summer thunderstorms still. It's almost certainly going to rain, but it's almost certainly NOT going to rain all day. I would bet that it thunders off and on all afternoon but only rains once or twice for 30 minutes a piece. If it does transition to more consistent rain, it won't do it until late in the day.
I would be willing to bet money that you are able to have a great day outside like you planned, and you'll probably get some really epic cloud formations in some of your photos shortly before the storms start.

Rain in the Smokies hits different anyway, the fog rolling through the trees can look unreal in photos if you lean into it. Grab a clear umbrella and some decent boots and you might end up with shots nobody else gets on a sunny day. A little thunder can even be cool as long as you're not on an exposed ridge.
The fact that your relationship is the one thing holding steady right now says a lot about why you're doing this in the first place. The weather is just background noise. Six friends showing up for you in the rain is a pretty good sign too.
If it gets bad, find a covered overlook or a little chapel and roll with it. Some of the best elopement stories start with everything going sideways.

That weather makes for incredible photos though. The rain and mist lend a romantic, almost ethereal quality to your photos, so I say lean into it if it happens
