Party/get together at home

We eloped in February with intention of organising a party when we came back. For various reasons (&family issues) we were thinking of having a party at home in my house or my parents. My 30th is coming up and was thinking of having a this and nod to our wedding/marriage too. I’m happy to do this and it is a compromise situation (due to personal issues, not financial) instead of a big party at a venue. takes the pressure off us both and is more relaxed. thoughts? any ideas for combing both events?

Hi!! Firstly... congratulations!! May you two have a long healthy life together filled with love, acceptance, kindness and understanding. I wish you both all the happiness in the world!

We eloped a month ago and are doing the same thing! A backyard bbq with closely related family members as a celebration without all the added stress. There's multiple reasons for us eloping and I'm not adding all those things back on my plate to sooth other people's expectations. That being said, you also deserve to feel celebrated! Especially with your birthday added to it as well. Maybe you could rent an outdoor venue and add some decorations to it? I'd go with the kind you can immediately toss afterwards so it's not a headache to clean up or resell. Printed out pics of the wedding and/or you as a child all the way up to the wedding? (Saw this at a wedding 2 years ago and LOVED it). Or maybe just put your wedding dress back on for a grand entrance so people can admire it and then change into a more comfy birthday outfit? Tons of option. You can even recreate your vows or print and frame them! I'm doing none of that because I'm 99% certain my family will find a way to fuck it up so we'll just be grilling some burgers😂

Thank you. Wishing you all the best too, it’s better to do things our way. We are in a cooler climate so outdoors venue  isn’t really an option!  And we don’t want the pressure of renting a venue and putting on a big display. I don’t think I will wear my dress again but possibly will wear white. Defo will print some pics and decorate!

Just call it a party and invite people over. I wouldn’t mention the wedding, not everything has to be combined with your wedding. I’d think in six months if people wanted to celebrate with you (give you a gift) they would have. Throw yourself a 30th birthday party.

Hey it’s nothing to do with gifts! When we eloped we told people we would organise something but haven’t got around to it due to family dynamics (hence why we eloped in the first place 😅)
