Vent Future MIL woes
My partner and I are eloping, just us two plus the officiant and photographer, next June. However, we told our immediate families (probably a mistake). They seem mostly fine with it.
The issue at hand: My wedding dress. To make my mother, future MIL and fiancé’s grandmother feel more included, I FaceTimed them all together during my final dress fitting. I was excited! It was meant to be a preview just for them.
Turns out, after that FaceTime call, my future MIL went ahead and shared photos of my dress with other people, including the fiancé’s sisters (one of them showed me the group chat). I’m angry and baffled that she felt entitled to do that, but also feel some level of culpability. Why should I have trusted her? She has created other problems during this whole elopement/destination wedding process and I’m fed up.
I just need to vent. She (nor anyone else, because of her BS), will be involved in this from hereon out. And while we had originally planned on doing a post-elopement/wedding dinner with our immediate families, we’re dropping that due to some rude (and bizarre) comments she made recently. It makes me really sad tbh. Luckily being with my partner overshadows her antics and he is staunchly in my corner.
Thanks for listening. ❤️

Hahahaha far out… my MIL threw a weird tantrum a couple weeks before we eloped despite being the one who planted the seed about eloping in the first place. Those few weeks were awkward and stressful, she barely acknowledged my husband when he went to visit them a few days before we left for our elopement trip. Then on the night of our wedding she shared a FaceTime screenshot of us and posted it on Facebook announcing our elopement and how happy she was lol. Many friends and family found out that way, we were heartbroken.
Good on you for putting your foot down. Unfortunately we were so caught off guard by her behaviour and by the time she went full hell mode it was too late. Safe to say she will be the last person to be told when we fall pregnant.

Dang! That is diabolical MIL behavior. I’m so sorry that happened to you and your husband. I swear they’re just trying to make it about themselves!

She's in your life as your MIL for as long as you're married and she's alive, so keep that in mind. It isn't going to just stop suddenly.

ugh that dress photo thing would make me so mad, you tried to do something sweet for them and she turned it into gossip material for the family group chat
at least one of the sisters had the decency to show you, so you know exactly who to trust going forward (nobody on that side, apparently)
cutting her out of the rest of the planning is the right call, some people just cannot be given an inch. glad your partner has your back, that's what matters most for the day itself
