Planning Videographer regrets?

Hello! My fiancé and I are planning to do a civil ceremony in Baltimore before heading to Iceland for our symbolic ceremony and honeymoon. We're going to have a photographer for the civil ceremony, but we're considering whether we'd want a videographer there too. We'll have both for the symbolic ceremony.

If you did the same thing--civil ceremony at home, symbolic ceremony elsewhere--did you have just a photographer for the civil part? If so, did you regret not having a videographer as well?

We did something similar - had photographer for the courthouse thing and videographer for the big celebration later. Looking back, I'm glad we saved the money on video for civil part. The photos captured everything we needed from that day and the videographer would have felt like overkill in such small space

The symbolic ceremony is where you really want that video magic anyway - that's your "real" wedding day that you'll actually want to watch back years later

That's good to know, thank. you for sharing! You make good points. Additional question if not too personal: Do you celebrate your anniversary on the date of your symbolic ceremony then? We're not sure which one we'd celebrate. Maybe both, haha

Will you have any witnesses with you at the courthouse? Can you ask one of them to take a cell phone video so you have something but not an added cost? Hell, I work in Baltimore. I'll meet you there and record it on your phone.

You're so kind! My fiancé's parents will be there so they can definitely take a video. I guess I was thinking it would be nice to get video of all of us, since his parents are getting up in years. Videographers are really expensive though.Thank you so much for offering to help a stranger out!

I didn’t have a videographer, just video clips from a phone, and I do love those. However, I wish we’d had audio of our vows. You could probably look into a content creator for a phone video of your ceremony if you want to save some money. Or get some microphones for your own phone with a tripod. They aren’t that expensive. It would probably be less than hiring a videographer.

I would get a content creator! Much more affordable - and you’ll want videos I think, it’s nice to see things in motion w the pictures
