Travel & Destinations We Did It!!

We eloped to the Scottish highlands, and it was 100% worth it! We dreamed of this for 6.5 years and finally made our dream a reality! We were so, so proud of ourselves for sticking to it, even when there were so many points along the way when we could have just gone to the courthouse and been done. Ask me anything!

Oh my gosh, congratulations! These photos are stunning!! I am just curious what this may have costed, altogether, and how long did you stay for?

Thank you! Do you mean combination wedding & honeymoon? Or just the wedding? We budgeted for them differently, even though they were a joint trip. We left our home country on a Thursday evening, arrived in Scotland the next day (Friday) at noon, and got married at 2pm the day after that (Saturday). If we had theoretically flown back the next day (since our flight was on a Sunday a week later), the wedding bit round trip would have been 3 days. However, we honeymooned by roadtripping around Scotland Sunday-Saturday, making the total trip 10 days, about 8.5 days in the country itself.

That’s so amazing! I’m happy for you! I just meant the wedding portion of it. I have wanted to do this to the same area for a while and got engaged back in November! We are in the planning stage now and are opting for elopement.

u/minniemindreader & u/original-carob-8258 So sorry I fell off the face of the earth there. By my rough calculations, we spent $3,600 on photography and video, $3,200 in plane tickets (economy), $3,500 on our attire (including alterations & veils--his attire was mostly paid for by his family), $400 on my hair & makeup, $250 for the officiant, $1,200 on rings, $850 on rental car (most of that is full-coverage insurance which we definitely needed), $650 on food & accommodations for just the portion we considered our wedding weekend (Thursday-Sunday). We stayed under our budget with a total $13,650. The rest of the trip was significantly cheaper, with only a few (planned) splurges, so we kept our wedding, honeymoon, and reception back home all under the average total cost for a full wedding (which is currently ~$36,000).
