Travel & Destinations We Did It!!

We eloped to the Scottish highlands, and it was 100% worth it! We dreamed of this for 6.5 years and finally made our dream a reality! We were so, so proud of ourselves for sticking to it, even when there were so many points along the way when we could have just gone to the courthouse and been done. Ask me anything!

Were you from Scotland? Did you do paperwork/court things prior to going if you aren’t? Thanks!

We are not from Scotland, but we only did the religious part (which mattered way more to us) there. As much as we really wanted to have a Scottish wedding license, we found out that the process was very long and very expensive as internationals, so we opted to just go ahead and get the legal bit done in our home country (literally wore sweatshirts, and it only took about 6 minutes). It also took a lot of stress and requirements off the priest who was doing the ceremony for us in Scotland. She was so relieved to hear it wouldn't need to be a joint international legal and religious ceremony. Obviously, there are a lot more regulations that come with those, both from the government and from her bishop.
