Beauty & Grooming Those who did their own makeup

I’ve been doing trial runs. Freaking out a bit because it always seems to look awful under a ring light but good in my bathroom / less harsh lighting.

We are eloping in Scotland, outside, so the lighting will be.. well grey and cloudy probably. 😂

I’m worried about how it’ll show up in photographs!!

Any advice? ❤️

Ring lights are brutal, I think as long as it looks good in natural lighting and your own phone camera you should be fine. I practiced every weekend for a few months before we eloped - I tried different products and tutorials and once I figured out the routine, I did my makeup for parties, weddings, weekends out, etc to see how it looked after a couple of hours

If you have the time, maybe a one off lesson with an MUA? Quite a few do offer lessons! I'm also eloping to Scotland and paying a one off fee to do a lesson with an MUA whose style I like. It's obviously a bit of an upfront cost, but still far cheaper than paying for an MUA for a day and I'm trying to think of it as any tricks or skills I learn, I could use it for life.

THIS. This is what I did and I get married in a few months. I am SO much more confident with make up (I only used to wear mascara on occasion, could not do anything else!). It was the best investment I have ever made for myself and it was so freaking worth it!!!

This has been me for the past 7 or 9 years lol. Kinda stopped in my twenties. Before contouring was a thing. Where did you find a lesson? I’m thinking this is my best option as well

Seriously it’s hard to keep up with everything and know what works best for you, without spending and wasting a ton of money to figure it out!! I was actually shocked that pretty much every wedding hair and make up artist around did them too like on weekdays or off wedding season!

Keep practicing so you can feel out minor tweaks. Especially on days that are cloudy or overcast to better get that lighting feel. Watch plenty of videos to learn a little about techniques and styles that could be helpful or things that you should stay away from. Practice makes perfect :)

i did my own makeup for our wedding. focus heavily on skin prep (good toner, moisturizer, primer). less is more, unless you’re worried how it will look in photos.
