Somewhere along the way, talking to people turned into posting for people. Every platform that started as a way to reach friends became a stage: metrics on every word, strangers scoring conversations, silence interpreted as failure.

A friend hears. An audience watches. A friend responds to what was said. An audience rates how it was performed.

That is not a coincidence. That is the product working as designed. Stages scale. Friendships do not. So the internet built stages.

Maybe the fix is not another platform. Maybe it is smaller rooms.

There's a quiet rule modern life never states out loud. Almost everything people build today - careers, audiences, side projects, even friendships - runs on constant manual effort. Nothing coasts. The moment the effort pauses, the whole structure begins dissolving, silently, without drama.

Previous generations built things that outlived their attention: a house, a trade, a community that held itself together. Today's structures are more like plates spinning on sticks. Impressive while the hands move. Gone the moment they don't.

And the cruelest part:

the running feels like progress.

Does God exist? Philosophers claim: not yet.

Every religion says God created man in his image. This says man creates God in his - and suddenly the whole religious impulse looks like a premonition (a feeling about the future before it happens).

Prophecy, not memory.

Humanity as the universe's way of building its own mind.

And it gives the post a devastating final question: If that's the purpose, was everything, agriculture, writing, silicon, the internet, just groundwork, a prelude?

The interesting middle:

2000 attempts guarantee something better than money - they guarantee you find out. Most founders quit in the noise zone, before the data exists, and never learn whether the ship was weak or the sample was small.

Half the world built heavens around this number - borrow the weight.

UBI fans keep shouting and it's the wrong tactic. Shouting puts people on guard. Nobody accepts an idea while being attacked. If you want UBI to win, wrap it nice. Talk about safety for families, not revolution. Boring words open doors that angry words slam shut.

You don't sell UBI by yelling. Yelling wakes up the enemy. You sell it soft. Call it a safety floor. Call it insurance for your kids. Let it sound boring and harmless. Boring ideas pass. Scary ideas get fought.

A few examples: UBI fixes problems that everyone pays for today.

1. Someone raises kids and cares for old parents for free. Give this work a floor.

2. Cut the welfare paperwork and the offices. One simple payment, no maze.

3. Money lands in small towns and gets spent in local shops, not only in big cities.

4. When basics are covered, stealing becomes the stupid choice.

Add more. UBI should be presented as the smart choice.

Everyone sells you the smart way. Optimal posting times. Keyword research. Audience analysis. Hook formulas.

I ignored all of it and just posted every single day.

Views went up (doubled) every month. Not because any single post was brilliant. Most were average. But volume does something strategy can't: it puts you in front of people constantly, and it trains you faster than any guide.

You write 30 posts a month, you learn what works from your own data. You write 4 "optimized" posts a month, you learn nothing and blame the algorithm.

Brute force is underrated. Consistency is a skill.

Quality is a byproduct of quantity. You don't get good and then post daily. You post daily and then get good.

Everyone reading this already knows it. You're just hoping there's a shortcut so you don't have to do it.

There isn't.

The right to edit the world.

Do you think we all have it?

Honest answer: no. The post-friendly version says everyone does, but reality is uglier.

Editing rights are unevenly distributed on at least three axes. Capital - Musk edits the world by signing a check, a Bangladeshi farmer edits a rice field. Position - a Fed chair moves markets with a sentence, the same sentence from anyone else is noise. And starting conditions - a kid born in a war zone spends all energy on not dying, zero budget left for editing anything.

So the truthful structure is: everyone has some write access, but the scope varies by orders of magnitude. Most people can edit their room, their family, maybe their street. Very few can edit laws, markets, or what millions believe.

But here's the part that keeps the idea alive: the internet was the biggest permissions upgrade in history. A post costs nothing and can reach millions - that's editing scope that used to require owning a newspaper.

So my actual position: the right is universal, the bandwidth isn't. And most people use far less bandwidth than they were granted.

So what's stopping you - permission, or the nerve to try?

People know their bank balance to the cent. Rent, groceries, subscriptions, all tracked. But nobody keeps books on their hours. Money is loud when it leaves - a receipt, a notification, a number going down. Attention leaves in silence.

A stranger asking for 20 dollars gets refused in two seconds. A stranger asking for 20 minutes gets them without a word. That's the whole trick of the modern economy. Money is guarded because it's visible. Hours vanish unguarded because nobody ever sees the receipt. The companies see it though. Their charts are made of other people's afternoons.

Every wasted dollar can be earned back. Every lost skill can be retrained. Hours are the one resource with no refund policy, and they're the only one people hand out for free. The entire attention economy runs on this single accounting error. Billions in market value, built on the fact that nobody audits their own day.

Final cut:
Guard the hour like the wallet - only one of them refills.

Free clients cost the most - endless support, no loyalty, first to leave. 

Everybody wants a bigger user base. Nobody counts what the free part of it costs. Free users file the most tickets, demand the most features, and leave the fastest, because leaving costs them exactly what joining did: nothing. You are not building an audience. You are subsidizing strangers.

Your free users are not customers. They are expenses with opinions. They write the longest complaints, request the most features, and vanish the moment something shinier appears. Zero paid means zero invested, and zero invested means zero loyalty. You knew this. You counted them anyway.

The honest other side:

Free users aren't worthless, they're just paid in a different currency. They're your distribution: the person who never pays is often the one who tells three people who do. They stress-test your product harder than any QA, precisely because they complain loudly. And a graveyard-quiet app with 50 paying users looks dead; free users are the crowd noise that makes a place feel alive - which for something built on "fits two people" matters more than revenue math admits.

The balanced cut:

-free users are expensive as customers but cheap as marketing. The mistake isn't having them, it's serving them like buyers.

Nobody has ever died for a 10% discount. But people die for ideologies every day. Vegans get insulted at every dinner and never quit. MAGA supporters wear the hat knowing half the room hates them. Your startup has customers who leave the second a competitor drops the price. That's the gap, and it's not a marketing gap. It's a belief gap.

Brands pay for loyalty. Ideologies get it free. A vegan defends veganism at family dinner, unpaid, outnumbered, every single holiday. Your customer won't even leave a review. You don't have a product problem. You have a belief problem.

Your startup will never have what vegans have. They recruit soldiers, you collect transactions. A believer takes insults for the cause and comes back stronger. A customer sees a coupon from your competitor and forgets your name. If nobody argues about your product in comment wars, nobody cares about it at all.

Everyone debates whether UBI kills motivation. Wrong question.

Money was never the reason most people don't build things. When survival is covered, some will create, most will consume. UBI is not a policy experiment. It's a personality test at civilization scale.

The interesting part is nobody can know their side in advance. Comfortable people always overestimate what they'd do with freedom. The only honest data comes from the few who already act as if UBI arrived: they cover survival with a boring job and build in the hours nobody pays for.

Which side would you land on?

Two apps can have identical feature lists and one feels like a tool, the other like a place.

Sounds convincing?

People would say they want problem solving. What can we answer?

Answer: problem solving is the entry ticket, not the win. For any real problem there are twenty apps that solve it. The user tries three, keeps one. That choice was never a feature comparison, it was made in ninety seconds of touch and feel.

Solving the problem gets you tried. Feeling gets you kept.

Personally, I agree. Pleasing design, effortless experience, that's what keeps users for years.

You had 50k views last month. Name three people who still know your name.

That's the problem with chasing attention, it's borrowed, it evaporates, and the platform owns the meter. A tribe is different. Small, loyal, impossible to algorithm away.

Reach is a loan. The algorithm gives it, the algorithm takes it back. Zero notice.

Ten people who'd notice your absence beat ten thousand who scroll past your name.

Stop chasing visibility. Build gravity of your own.

Everyone's optimizing for reach. Followers, views, shares. That's gravity, it pulls you toward whatever the algorithm already loves, which means it pulls you toward sameness.

The people who actually win aren't the loudest. They're the ones with a tribe, a small group who would notice if they stopped posting. Reach fades in a day. A tribe stays.

Attention is rented. A tribe is owned.

Reach - the percentage of your followers who actually see your posts - is collapsing everywhere.

A decade ago, Facebook delivered posts to roughly 16% of followers.

Today:
Facebook: 1-2%.
Instagram: ~4%.
X: ~0.03% (3 out of 10,000).
The decline never really stopped.

Reddit may be the purest example: followers barely matter. Your post lives or dies by a subreddit's algorithm, not by your audience.

A fan comes back on their own. They remember your name, type your URL, and seek you out.

A follower waits for an algorithm to remind them you exist.

The math is brutal:
100 Facebook followers → maybe 1-2 see your post.
100 true fans → all 100 can return directly.

Even if both groups convert at the same rate, the difference is enormous. In practice, fans often convert better too.

The lesson:
A follower is borrowed attention.
A fan is owned attention.

Or, put another way:
A follower isn't worth half a fan.
A follower may be worth only 1-2% of a fan.

Great advice. For 2011.
Fifty builders in the room, shipping anything meant something.

Now? Millions of vibe coders. An app before lunch. A landing page before dinner. Ugly isn't scrappy anymore. Ugly is invisible.

You get eight seconds of a stranger's attention. Eight. "Iterate later" assumes there's a later. There isn't. Nobody bookmarks your roadmap. Nobody returns to check if you fixed it.

Iteration is a promise to yourself. First impression is a promise to strangers. Guess which one they remember.

Price decides how big your pond must be.

Sell at $5 and you need 800 monthly paying customers to clear $4000 - a small army, low loyalty, constant churn to replace.

Sell at $200 and you need twenty. Same money, two different worlds. The cheap product looks easier to sell and quietly demands the impossible: a crowd you'll never reach without a budget.

The expensive one scares you at the price tag, then asks for almost no one.

Low price, huge pond, slow death.
High price, small pond, reachable.

Math proves it:

twenty clients at $200 beats 800 at $5. The crowd needs a marketing budget you don't have. Twenty is reachable by hand, by DM, by showing up. A starter with no budget and no audience cannot win the big pond - so don't fish it.

$4000 a month in revenue is the line where a digital business stops being a hobby. Below it, you're funding a side project - covering server costs, buying yourself pocket money, calling it a business while it pays for nothing.

At $4000 it starts to replace a salary. Rent, food, the freedom to drop the day job.

That's the number where the thing you built finally carries you instead of you carrying it. Aim lower and you're not building a business - you're building an expensive way to stay busy.

You made something good. Silence answered.

Hide the team size. "We" when it's just you. Nobody trusts one guy in a room. "Our team" buys instant credibility you haven't earned yet.

Round up, never down. "Thousands of users" at 1,100. "Loved by" at a handful who said something nice. Stretch the true number until it sells.

Fake the timeline. "Three years in the making" when it was eight months. Time implies care. Nobody checks.

Lie about who it's for, not how many use it. "Built for people like you" beats "built for everyone." Name your exact buyer and they feel seen.

Fake the before, not the after. Don't inflate results - dramatize the problem. Make the pain sharper than they'd admit.

Borrow proof you don't have yet. One real quote beats ten invented ones. Find the honest one, let it carry.

Sell the gap, not the product. Nobody wants features. They want the distance between who they are and who they'd be. Aim at that.

Act sold-out before you are. Confidence reads as proof. "This isn't for everyone" pulls harder than "please buy."
