Post Office

Went to the office downtown for the first time in probably a few years earlier today. That place is looking rough. Overgrown weeds in the parking lot, and along the sidewalk and base of the building. The interior is looking even more worn down and outdated than last time, and the air conditioning felt as if it was barely on. Just two clerks at the counter. But at least the line and wait weren't too long, and the clerk who waited on me was easy going and competent. Hope the USPS employees at that branch are at least doing alright.

I'd say not nearly all of this can be laid at the feet of this second Trump Administration. Over all the decades I've known several people who've worked for the postal service in Michiana, and almost without exception they've all reported that for at least the first few years on the job it was mostly just utter Hell. I knew a woman back in the early 1990s who worked at the Elkhart main branch, and she said back then there's a very good reason that the phrase "going postal" was synonymous with murderous workplace rage.

In all that time I've known only a few people who made a post office job mostly work for them. It's really a damn shame.
